Microsoft has expanded its Copilot+ PC family with two new Surface devices: the 12-inch Surface Pro tablet and the 13-inch Surface Laptop. Powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus SoC, they are smaller, thinner, and lighter than their predecessors, prioritizing portability and affordability.

12-inch Surface Pro (2025)

The Surface Pro boasts a 12-inch PixelSense LCD with a 2196 x 1464 resolution, 90Hz dynamic refresh rate, and 10-point multitouch. Powered by a Snapdragon X Plus processor, it features an 8-core CPU and an integrated 45 TOPS NPU for on-device processing of AI workloads.

The new Surface Pro comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and two storage options: 256GB and 512GB. As part of Microsoft's renewed focus on sustainability, users can easily upgrade the storage. Microsoft didn't specify the battery capacity but claimed it would offer up to 12 hours of web browsing and 16 hours of video playback.

The 256GB Surface Pro sports a $799 asking price, while the 512GB model lists at $899. Customers can pre-order from Microsoft's digital storefront, Amazon, or Best Buy, with shipping slated for May 20. Customers can also snag an optional Flex Keyboard or a Surface Slim Pen 2, which charges by attaching to the back of the tablet.

13-inch Surface Laptop (2025)

The Surface Laptop features a 13-inch PixelSense HDR display with a 1920 x 1280 resolution, 60Hz refresh rate, and 10-point multitouch. Like the Surface Pro, it runs on a Snapdragon X Plus chip with an 8-core CPU and a 45 TOPS Hexagon NPU. Microsoft offers it with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and either 256GB or 512GB of storage.

Microsoft hasn't specified the battery capacity but claims the Surface Laptop can deliver up to 16 hours of web browsing and 23 hours of video playback on a single charge. If accurate, those figures would place it among the longer-lasting devices in its class – an advantage for users who value all-day performance without recharging.

The base model Surface Laptop, with 256GB of storage, is $899, while the 512GB version runs $999. Those prices are slightly higher than the Surface Pro options, but you get a built-in keyboard included. Customers can pre-order both models through the Microsoft Store and Amazon.

One notable omission from the new devices is Microsoft's proprietary Surface Connect magnetic charging port. Lead Surface designer Jit Hirani told Gizmodo that the team dropped Surface Connect to make the devices the thinnest and lightest Surface PCs to date. Without it, the latest Copilot+ models charge via their built-in USB-C port. They also lack an in-box charger, which Microsoft says was removed to comply with an EU regulation to reduce e-waste.

Still no 8.8" MS tablet.

I just bought a Lenovo Legion Tab with Snapdragon 8 gen 3. Fantastic tablet. It's fast, has a beautiful 2560×1600 screen with 165 Hz refresh rate, long lasting battery and Wifi 7. My only complaint is the lack of an SD card port. I don't use it for gaming, only surfing and reading books. Only $500. What a luxury!
