overall PC?

my friend has a dell, 512mb of ram 2.4 ghz intel p4, I was wondering if this would work for games like hl2 and doom3 , he has a 4x AGP slot, if it would work could you suggest the best gfx card for him.

I think that it is set but we need to know your budget and putting another 512 mb of ram wouldn't hurt either.
