I would love to see you folks create a PC configurator that bases all it's strength of build starting with the system board. Without a doubt it is the most important piece of the system at it ties together all of the tech. The problems I have run into is not knowing (easily) when the system board debuted and if there is a soon to be replacement. Worse, I see well meaning folks design their system around a graphics card they might like, not realizing the end of support for their system board might be just around the corner.
With the in depth reviews Tech Spot creates I can see a system configurator that would access information seldom gleaned from other so called PC builders. Link that to your price monitoring tech and the end user could build a truly "future proof" (at least three to five years of potential viability) versus the calamities actually occurring.
So, as an example, a person with a limited budget could get the best possible system board for their intended use- gaming, creative, mixed use - (where one should always spend the money first (I.e. the system board)) and have a button for the minimal potential configuration (self configuring the system board for the cheapest processor, smallest slowest memory, small power supply that matches equipment requirement needs, system board entry level CPU, etc). Then also have a button for a total high end optimization of that same system board (max graphics card, max and fastest memory, Godzilla processor, etc). Of course the equipment would have the usual reviews and ratings attached too.
In self configuration, after I picked my system board, I could click on the highlighted processor socket, and all the processors that could be used would pop up with their pricing, total cpu's, speed, etc. Keeping the power supply as the last item chosen, it would only bring up the power supplies that would properly power the rest of the equipment already chosen for the board.
And anywhere in between. Keep it as simple to use and visual as possible.
This would end a lot of mistaken orders and save tons of time and give users the chance to buy a relatively future proofed rig.
While I am wishing...can you have it all ready by next week.
