Please help. Laptop won't fully boot due to referenced memory could not be read.

Hi. I'm just new to this forum and was recommended by a friend of mine. I am trying to help my brother out with his laptop.

His OS is Windows XP and when it is switched on will go through whole booting up process until an error message comes up saying - "The instruction at 0x77e29b04 referenced memory at 0x0000007b. The memory could not be read"

It then asks to click "OK". When done will either freeze or take back to start of booting up process.

Can anyone please help and advise me what I can do?

Sounds like one of your RAM modules may be failing. You can try to test your RAM with Memtest86 or replace it and see if the error disappears.
