See the Read: How to remove Trojans thread.

I've helped people in the past with this problem and sent them all there.
Surprised I did not find any posts myself either!

Removing Pokapoka79.exe

I have tried the Trend online virus scanner and for me it did nothing. It may stil work for others and is well worth the effort in any case.

I had to go to Hp (the makers of my laptop) but they gave me this fix which DEFINITELY works.

Steps 1 - 4 de-activate virus/trojan. it will still be on your system but will be useless.
Steps 5 - 9 remove the virus/trojan from your computer.

This has been done in Windows XP.

Step 1. To login Safe Mode:

1. Restart the Computer
2. Press F8 (or your safe mode key)repeatedly when the computer starts to boot.
3. This will give you the Startup Menu.
4. From the Startup menu, select the Safe mode option and hit Enter.
5. This will let you enter in Safe Mode.

Step 2. Turn OFF System Restore.

1. Right click on the "My Computer" icon on the Windows desktop
2. Click "Properties"
3. Click on the "System Restore"
4. Place a tick in "Turn off System Restore on all Drives"
5. Click OK
6. Close and restart your system.

Step 3.Disable Starup programs

Run MSConfig, perform the following steps:

1. Click Start and select Run.
2. Type MSConfig and press Enter.
3. Click the Startup tab.
4. From the list, deselect all the programs except the following programs:
* systray
* scanregistry
5. Click OK.
6. Restart the system.

NOTE: To restore any of the removed items, repeat the above-mentioned steps and select the checkboxes for the
designated applications.

Step 4. Delete your TEMP files by doing the following:

1. Open up Internet Explorer
2. Click on Tools > Internet Options
3. Click on General TAB
4. On the Temporary Internet Files, Click on Delete Files and then check Delete All Offline Content.
5. Click Ok.
6. Click Ok.
7. Restart the computer.

Step 5. Run a further online scan from any of the following sites:

http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp
http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/default.asp?langid=ie&venid=sym

Step 6. Download and Install HP recommended latest Spyware remover from the following URL:

Marie: Step 7. Install and run CWShredder available here:

http://www.soft32.com/download-CWShredder-19014-5.html
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe

Step 8. When everything is clean, it is recommended that you turn System Restore back on.

1. Right click on the "My Computer" icon on the Windows desktop
2. Click "Properties"
3. Click on the "System Restore"
4. Place a uncheck "Turn off System Restore on all Drives"
5. Click OK
6. Close and restart your system.

Step 9. Make sure your Windows is FULLY up-to-date by doing the following:

1. Connect to the Internet
2. Open the Internet Explorer Window
3. Click on Tools
4. Click on Windows Update.
This will take you to the Microsoft Windows Update page where you need to follow the on screen prompts, starting with “Scan for Updates”. Install ALL “Critical Updates” and “Service Packs”.

Repeat all the above steps for extra assurance that it is removed, this time everything should come up clean…

Hope this helps everyone as much as it helped me.
Feel free to copy and circulate this.

I had the same problems listed here, and so thanks for your help Blindpanda.
I did have a question though:
-When you are all finished with this process, and you are done checking if Windows is up-to-date, will everything go on as normal, but without pokapoka.exe? or do you need to re-install most of your programs?
To try and be more clear: By turning off/disabeling things like ststray or something, will that harm your computer at all, or are the things listed above only target pokapoka.exe?

I do hope to here from you, or someone that has used the above method for some feedback because I wish to start it immediately.

Thanks

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Very Important: Before deciding whether you should clean or reformat your system, go and read this thread HERE and decide what it is you want to do.

If after reading the above, you wish to clean your system, do the following.

Go and read the Viruses/Spyware/Malware, preliminary removal instructions. Follow all the instructions exactly.

Post fresh HJT and AVG Antispyware logs as attachments into a new thread in this forum, only after doing the above.

ok thanks!
Unfortunetaly, I have already completed the process mentioned above. It did not work for me sadly. The problem was that when I was in MSConfig and under the correct tab, there was not a tab to unselect titled "systry" or "scanregistry". I talked to someone and they told me to just select the pokapoka.exe, which I did. In the end it did not work.

Maybe it will work for others of you. Good luck!
