Portal 2 pushed to 2011, E3 surprise is Portal 2-related

In a press release humorously titled "Valve Announces Making Games is Hard," the Half-Life developer revealed that the sequel to 2007's wry puzzle shooter Portal won't be coming this year after all. Previously due this holiday season, Portal 2 has been delayed to an ambiguous "2011 release" window.

This announcement follows the recent cancellation of a Portal 2 event that was scheduled for this month. To sweeten that bitter news, Valve promised to reveal a surprise at E3. Naturally, that surprise immediately spawned rumors, and many gamers believed Valve would unveil Half-Life 2: Episode 3.

Gabe Newell quickly laid that buzz to rest, but in case you're still hanging on to some thread of hope, the press release reads in part: "To ask questions about how close we all came to dying, or to ask futile questions about the previously announced E3 ***PORTAL-2-THEMED-FOR-GOD'S SAKE*** surprise."

VALVE ANNOUNCES MAKING GAMES IS HARD

June 9, 2010 -- Aperture Science, doing business as Aperture Laboratories LLC, in partnership with Valve today announced the successful completion of an ethics-review-panel-supervised release date restructuring process. Portal 2, the sequel to the ground-breaking title that earned over 30 Game of the Year awards despite missing its original ship date, is now targeted for a 2011 release.

Representatives from both companies acknowledged that public safety concerns factored into the decision. They went on to say that even though Portal 2 will arrive slightly later than planned, all life on earth won't instantaneously stop as every molecule in your body explodes at the speed of light, which is what would happen should a rip ever appear in the fabric of Valve Time.

"Also, the game will be even better," they added, missing an historic opportunity to create the first product delay press release to mention that a product is being delayed to make it worse.

But they have said it is not. Anyway this is my last comment on Valve's news until E3. Tired of the tease...just gonna wait now.

These kind of announcements are doing a great job in creating hype. This is why Valve is one of my favorite company. Let's hope that next games they make will just as great or even better than the others.

I like Valve for the delays they make, they bring out very good games with a lot less bugs in when compared to "other" Game company's.

Cannot wait to see what the surprise is.

I agree with Timonius though we've fallen prey to the hype machine when they have just delayed a game. With the "surprise" pending, they better make it good, then again admitedly Valve makes great games.

Looks like E3 is gonna have some awesome announcements . Was reading some speculation that the surprise might be Source 2 Engine which would be awesome, but that doesn't seem to fit all the hype imo.
