Problem with pc running like background process are eating up all resources, w/ log

Well I am trying to help out my roomie as his computer got infected with some nasty worms/virus/trojans a few weeks ago. His computer ran fine before that, but even after downloading AVG free edition and removing everything and adaware and spybot and even other things his computer still has major problems. Even tried finding the w32.blaster worm using the norton removal tool but it said the worm wasn't present.

It appears as if the worms and such have been removed as well as the spyware, but it now runs so slow, it takes forever to load any program, and I just can't figure out what the culprit is.

That HJT log is clean.

It`s quite possible that the infections you have removed have damaged the OS and that`s why it`s so slow.

Obviously, I didn`t see the computer when it was infected, so can`t say with any certainty, if it was worth cleaning or not.

You could try a Windows repair as per this thread HERE. However, if that doesn`t improve the situation, it might be better to just reformat and reinstall from scratch.
