Quick question about msconfig options

New laptop. Looking to get the most out of it... but seeing as to how Windows is such a memory hog... etc, etc.

Anyway, I went through the WinXP Memory Tweak guide and did whatever I could from Windows. I really don't feel like playing around with the BIOS and screwing my comp up.

I understand it will help memory usage if I tell msconfig to startup selectively and uncheck "Load System Services" and "Load Startup Items"... However, if it happens that I need any of those Services/Items, will Windows automatically call them as I require if I disable them?

I'm pretty new to fiddling around with all this stuff, so go easy on me.

Services and start up programs are very different.

If you really want to you can uncheck everything in the start up tab,except the Firewall/AV.

Services on the other hand you have to be careful with.

There is a tweak guide HERE that tells you what can safely disable.
