Rescue CD

I have a rescue CD that came with my laptop. Is it possible to repair windows XP if I put that in the drive and type sfc/scannow in the command prompt that comes up to repair any damaged files. I am aware that one can do it if he has a complete XP cd. But I am not sure if a Rescue CD would work. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends on the Maker, most rescue CD's will not allow the repair function. However there is usually a utility installed on the PC to create a Windows backup CD from the repair CD you can then use this to repair Windows.. Unfortunately most people miss the opportunity to make it before the PC crashes.

The other alternative is to create a repair CD from 3rd party software.
