Sundance Institute has announced that jOBS, the biopic of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, will premiere at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2013. The film will be shown out of competition on the last night of the event in Park City, Salt Lake City, Ogden and Sundance, Utah.
The movie, written by Matt Whiteley and directed by Joshua Michael Stern, is said to chronicle the life of Jobs from his teenage years through the next 30 years of his life. It also features Dermot Mulroney, Josh Gad, Lukas Haas, J.K. Simmons and Matthew Modine.
Sundance describes the film as a candid, inspiring and personal portrait of the one who saw things differently. Director of programming for Sundance Trevor Groth said it was chosen to close the festival because there is something inspirational about it. He believes that a lot of people can relate to the fact that Jobs stayed true to his vision.
If you recall, the role of Steve Jobs is being played by Ashton Kutcher in the film. He may not seem like the best choice but there’s no denying that he has a striking resemblance to a young Jobs. Kutcher’s casting was announced earlier this year in April.
The Sundance Festival is an 11-day event that runs from January 17 through the 27th. 115 feature-length films will be screened during the event representing 32 different countries. The Hollywood Reporter highlights the fact that this includes projects from 51 first-time filmmakers. More than 12,000 films were submitted for inclusion in the prestigious festival.
