TechSpot's Guide to the Best Smartphones

The "best" is a term that doesn't really mean anything.
Do you want the most expensive?
Do you want the fastest?
Do you want value for your money?
To me, the last one is what makes "the best" phone.
But, it's your money, spend it wisely.

Just because google made the software on the pixel doesnt mean its bloatfree.

Someone non-techy close to me who has one gets 100 notifcations from google a day telling them "2 photos didnt sync!" or "the weather where you are is x" or "Leave a review of the place you just were" (which is only slightly creepy). I went in with the brief time I had with it and disabled as many things as I could, but it would take hours for me to get the privacy settings and the notification settings in check.

Even if you ignore the google privacy concerns, it just wasnt a pleasant experience to use IMO. Id rather have 20 preinstalled apps, that I didnt want, that do nothing, than have google constantly forcing its notifcations and 'features' upon me.

Just picked up the Moto E4 on sale for half the price listed in the article. I really like it so far. Motorola doesn't pull any tricks to get your bootloader unlocked. That's a small win in my book; I know I'm a minority here.

Benchmarks put it close to the Samsung Galaxy S4. For the price I got it for this is amazing. Removal battery, SD card slot and headphone jack.

The terrible 3d performance is the only real con I have for it so far.

Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom, guys. How many other phones have a 5,000mAh battery and last two full days?

Come on, now. It's not like ASUS would bother to pay Techspot to report on or include their phones for anything like a "Best of" list.

The iPhone X is the best iPhone? Really? Some keen insight there, guys.

They did give reasons for it just like all the other phone didn't they or am I missing something? I wouldn't expect them to give the iPhone 8 with its 2 year old design a "best phone to get" award.

I guess everyone will have a different version of what a best phone should be. For me it would be the OnePlus 5T (Have a OP3 so naturally I'm a fan of OnePlus) or the V20 (Lot of phone for $320).

What's under the hood? Why are we just giving less specs of what's powering these devices?

MPU - Octa, Quad, Dual?
RAM
Video
Audio

I've ditched my ZTE ZMAX Pro for T-Mobile REVVLPLUS C3701A sports MPU Octa core at 2.0 GHz, 2GB of DDR3/4, 32 GB Nanda / 128 GB XD (64 GB in mine), Triple Cams 8 mp in the front dual in the back 13 mp plus 5 mp = 18 mp. Along with finger print sensor. I wanted 6" IPS, larger battery this one has it the battery last a lot longer than the ZMAX Pro did. Plus feels right in my palms of my hands the weight is less also. I am not impressed with iPhone or Samsung overly priced cell phones. I am not paying $850 or $30 a month lease. Nuts to pay that! I had to buy two phones that's like $60 a month and $1700 for two cells come on get real. I want something that works gives me speed and sounds good this one does. Plus functions with the latest Android 7.0.1. They told me I can trade up to Samsung S8 Plus any time, well not really a fan of that brand. Not much choice today. Until the transparent cell tech comes out I'll wait and see. But I am not going to settle for 5.0 HD, 5.5 HD just too tiny to see.

I just bought a LG V20 for $365! It's a *wonderful* device! Fast as hell and with a removable battery! GREAT!
Picture quality is good, wide angle camera is really a plus and the overall quality and speed, with 3Gb RAM and 64GB of storage (expandable with micro-SD card...) is plenty! IMO it's THE bargain of the moment on eBay... And to think it was more than twice this price a year ago!

Nonsence. Clean Android is even better than ios.

Iphone or android, I wish they would simply quit giving default apps. I'll never use hangouts, docs, contact, etc, etc, etc.
on apple, I will never use wallet, maps, news, reminders, etc, etc, etc.

As we're seeing, this topic quickly became click-bait, sigh.

IMO, it would be a neat presentation to see a matrix of features vs phone models where the feature headings were clickable to prioritize the sort order and then submit to get that presentation. The backend then runs the query with ORDER BY to emit the final results. Once built, the effort could be reused in the future - - ergo: The Best According to ME
@Julio Franco just saying.
