The TLDR: The UK government has changed the laws here, forcing Apple to remove encryption from most aspects of the device and iCloud. Access to user data is allowed by officials without warrant or restriction.
The UK say it's for everyone's safety, signalling OneDrive etc is next in the firing line. The mantra is whole device encryption is not needed, and if you need it must have something to hide, which is astounding they're pushing that agenda. The main focus seems to be wanting access to photos and videos to detect illegal content, and as soon as anyone mentions that angle most back down.
Me personally, this sets a dangerous precedent for things to come I feel. I mean, where do you stop? We're already trying to ban VPN's under the online safety bill as well as running home cloud/file storage servers. Sigh.
