Webcam and sound off

i just installed a new webca and when i test it out using the software i notice sound a video are about one second off. is there a setting i need to adjust or maybe i missed a piece of software.im up to date on java and i have msn live messenger...

does the webca have an inbuilt microphone or is it one that is plugged into the PC ?
