When booting up I get <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

I have an Ibm thinkpad t30 2366 and last week I turned it on and widows would not load and on the screen appears <windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. I am new to computers and do not have a disk as it was lost in a house fire. Could anyone please advise me on the possibilities for a fix?

Try booting and continually hitting the F8 key. Then select boot from last good boot. Without an XP Cd not sure what else you can do, perhaps someone else will have an idea.

Try that Pjamme told you. If it still don't work you may try the same thing but instead of last known good configuration you may use the Safe mode one. If both don't work then you may have file corrupted on your PC which you need to get the CD to repair or make a clean install.
