Me and my friend where drooling over Oblivion and he suddenly started freaking out cos on the faq site(http://www.elderscrolls.com/games/oblivion_faq.htm) under the supported video cards bit his isnt listed! he has a ATI radeon xpress 200. I just want to know if he can play it! i dont care if it is on the lowest settings or anything like that i just want him to be able to experience Oblivion like i will be able 2 (not that i can have all the settings maxed out tho)

I honestly doubt it will be playable, even with the settings all the way down.
The graphics on this game rival (or exceed we will see) that of Doom 3.

It wouldnt hurt to know the rest of the system specs...

And if you have a xpress200 chipset, youre likely to have a PCI-E slot. So upgrading (even a modest 6600) would <b> greatly </b> improve performance.

But the game looks killer, ive had the d*** thing reserved since oct 12.

other specs! im not quite sure id have to ask him. but i think he has a pentium 4 at 2.9ghz and he has 512ram but 128 is graphics so he has 384 mb of ram. i dont know anything else do u need any more info? hey dont bag the 6600 i have a 6600GT its good!

well, 384MB of ram is not going to be enough to run the game! I would tell your friend to hold off until he can afford some upgrades.

And i wasnt making fun of the 6600, but even that card is going to be brought to its knees when you play this game.

But its better then xpress200

oblivion

i can run doom3 and its a s*** game anyway so i dont care if the graphics exceed this lame excuse for a game, by the way im the one with the ati radeon 200

im telling you right now, 384MB of ram most likely will not run the game. At least not at a playable state.

Lol no...

The graphics will rival or exceed the graphics seen in FEAR... Doom3 didn't use HDR or SM 3.0 or support Multi-Core...

the xpress 200 is not going to cut it man, sorry.

oblivion

nah you wernt meant to take it that way, well i am getting more ram and i can run fear just fine at the moment.

Ok a bit of a rebuttal.

Portions of physics, AI, loading, audio, and rendering tasks can all be moved to different threads to keep the overall load balanced. The net result for the end user is a smoother experience.

Support Multi Core? Eh sorta. I have heard alot of hype about supporting mulitcore CPUs, but how much load is going to be placed on each core? How are Technically Speaking quake 3 supported multi core. But how effective was it? And as far as im aware the Havok physics engine doesn't support Mulit-Core.

And why bring up SM 3.0? He doesnt support it, and there is still a big debate wether it is all its cracked up to be.

And i know quite a few people who had Doom 3 bring their system to a halt, while FEAR wasnt so bad.

Im not trying to argue, but i just dont like being at the end of a "lol..no" :haha:

yeah well im gonna get more ram, do you reckon it will run if i have more ram

You will NOT be able to play the game smoothly (or even play at all) and I recommend these:

Memory (RAM to you): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?
Item=N82E16820145440

The Corsair RAM above ^ got 1246 reviews and most of them voted 5 stars (That's why the average mark is 5 stars)

Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130283
eVGA 7600GT: Core clock is 580 MHz and Memory clock is 1500MHz and it has 12 pixel pipelines and average mark is also 5 stars. If you can't afford that video card, get this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130271 but I recommend the 7600GT as it's only about $25 more than the 6800GS but THIS is THE ABSOLUTE MINIMUM in my opinion: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130214 That is a 6600GT with a core clock of 500MHz and a memory clock of 1000MHz.

A combination of one of those video cards and memory will run the game as smooth as cream cheese. By the way, every single product that I'm recommending to you has scored an average of 5 stars. WHO AGREES WITH ME

P.S: If you use Intel, ask someone else to recommend you 1GB RAM as I don't know what kind of RAM Intel uses. If you use AMD, buy the parts I listed FTW!!! :bounce: I can only dream of a system like that

Oblivion

well Akifuddin i just bought oblivion and i can run it at a playable state and its sick as and with the graphics turned down it still dosnt even look that bad.

Woo! I meant you couldn't play Oblivion fast when using HIGHEST settings which most people who play Oblivion do because that game's graphics are just about the best in the whole world. It's not really worth it playing at low settings for that kind of game. And 384 RAM, WTF?

well it is worth playing it cause it dosnt even look bad and i wouldnt pay $100 to look at a games graphics (i know they are the best in the world) id rather play it

regardless of the quality, and you said i probably wont be able to run IT AT ALL!

If it runs great you can get a cheap 512 stick of ram at your local computer shop or even bestbuys, comp usa etc etc etc. all I'm trying say is with an extra 512 stick of ram, it will be descently playable.

But hey if it work, it works (384mb)

Best of Luck...

I'm running it on an A64 2800+ fsb oc'd to 1.98, and a Radeon 9600Pro, with 1 Gig of ram.

Its jerky at 8x6 at 640x480 (gah) its good, but I thought the game looked terrible actually, the jaggies are absolutely horrible at 8x6 and obviously at 640.

I may end up getting a 7800GS (agp) if I decide I like the game enough.

hey post screenies of you playing it then If your card can run it I bet my radeon 9250 256 mb graphics card can

id like to see some screen shots of your FPS. They have to be uber low to run on 384 Mb of ram. Also, what settings do you have it on?
