win me to xp\pro error #4

had win me did fdisk and reformat tried to install xp\prostarted install then gave me message error#4 will have to exit. i have a compac presario-amd\750\megz processor 30 gig harddrive\96 megs pc 100,i realize i will need more ram but this should be enough for the install.
can anyone tell me how to solve this problem.any help will be appreciated. thank you in advance for your help.

According to M$ you can install XP with 64MB, but more is better.

Can you be more specific with that error-message, please? (Full number and text when possible)

When installing did you let XP do the fdisk and format (in NTFS)?
