windows security issue

I'm not sure if this is the right place for this post but here goes. A friend thinks she fried her laptop without saving hew research paper but the harddrive is still good. She bought it used from a friend "Dale" & changed her login user to "Tarren". I got a usb adapter & hooked her drive to my PC but the "Dale" folder under "doc & settngs" "is not accessible" "access is denied" everything else reads w/o problems any suggestions. I've tried making a login user for all names involved to no avail.

Hi

You need to take ownership of the folders and files , I made a quick guide here, follow it and then you should be able to access it.
