Hi,I have installed OEM windows XP,to activate i inserted the key on the COA label but over the internet it didnt activate so i telephoned instead,then microsoft gave me a long number to insert and XP was activated,what i would like to know if forever i needed to format and reinstall again will i be able to use the number supplied or will i have to start all over again and be given a fresh number.Regards Martin.

If it was tried it would not not work

Therefore under similar situation, you would need to phone MS to get a new code
The present long number you were given is now useless, and can be thrown away.

If you'll wait for a few months before reinstalling, you most likely won't need to call, it'll activate over the internet. At least that's what my own experiences have been.
