XP HE wont boot normal mode, safe mode ok

Power failed on my new Gateway 509 with Windows XP HE. It will boot in safe mode fine but stays on the XP Splash Screen for more than 30 minutes.
Computer has a 250GB HD and Chkdsk says it is OK.

What should I do next?
