YouTube Premium is hiking prices across Europe, Asia, and South America

What just happened? Google has raised the subscription cost of YouTube Premium, which provides an ad-free experience on the video sharing platform, in multiple markets worldwide. This latest round of price increases comes just a year after the company hiked rates in the US, where the cost of an individual YouTube Premium plan rose from $11.99 to $13.99, and the family plan jumped from $17.99 to $22.99.

Subscribers in Europe are the hardest hit by the recent price hikes, but users in other regions will also see their bill go up as the new plans take effect. Those subscribing through Apple are facing the steepest increase, while users who sign up or renew directly via the YouTube website will benefit from a discount.

In Switzerland, individual plan costs are going from 15.90 CHF to 17.90 CHF and family plans are jumping from 23.90 CHF to 33.90 CHF. In Belgium, Ireland, Italy, and the Netherlands, individual plans increased from €11.99 to €13.99, while family plans soared from €17.99 to €25.99.

Users in Denmark will now pay 139 DKK for an individual plan, up from 119 DKK, and 259 DDK for a family plan (previously 177 DKK). In Sweden, the individual plan now costs 149 SEK, up from 119 SEK, while family plans jumped from 179 SEK to 279 SEK. Similar price hikes have impacted subscribers in Singapore, UAE, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Czech Republic, Indonesia, Colombia, Norway, and Thailand.

The increases have sparked strong reactions from users, with some threatening to cancel their YouTube Premium subscriptions. One Danish Redditor pointed out that the new rates make YouTube Premium the most expensive streaming service in Denmark, costing more than Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO combined.

In response, Google stated that the hikes would enable the company to continue delivering "great service and features" while supporting creators and artists on YouTube. Similar reasoning was given in last year's email to US users, where the company emphasized that the increase was necessary to maintain quality service for all users.

I left YouTube Prem almost a year ago. I don’t miss it. It turns out there are other browsers which allow the same ad-free experience with background play on mobile without the use of 3rd party stores, sideloading, Adblocking apps or rooting…

Youtube's algorithm has gone down hill so much that it's hard to find worth while content anymore. On tip of that, their ads have gotten horrible. I was fine watching an ad or two before they went full scorched earth with it.

I would never spend a dollar on Trashtube. Go to any political news channel, most bots bashing Orange man bad. Last time I heard, China was the main cause. Oddly Fox News has more issues than CNN.

The other annoyance is the gas lighting of bots on crappy movie trailers and shows like Kimmel, Meyers, TheView. Also you have the old school originals like bots saying where can I get the number of that person so I can make $10K a week etc.....

I'm just hoping there will eventually be enough backlash from users (I've left Google my feedback directly already) that YouTube will allow a separate lower priced tier just for ad removal. YouTube music is cool, but I don't NEED it.

Premium may be worth the money, if google stopped the censorship, the shadowbans, fixed its copyright system, and fixed its bot problem.

Until then...nope.

google doesn't care. they'd rather break adblockers in their browser then force you to buy their overpriced premium garbage. The average consumer has no issue with this business model.

Unless a large family or whatever, I don't see the benefit, I can go to YT or YT music already no delays, no adverts for free . download videos: thing there is 3rd party apps for that, not sure what you would download except comedy or music videos . When my son was very young downloaded some kids stuff as paid a lot for data back then.
As stated above their algorithm is 90% reactive, if I look at story say involves "woke", I suddenly get loser feeble males anti-women feed- See top woman athlete beaten by collegiate male.ie absolute gutter trash for losers.
Do not recommend this channel etc is a daily occurance . Don't even give you spam filters "top 5 x , or top 5 y are all bot junk videos

I have noticed that a lot of international bots do not visit Youtubers channels much but swarm legacy media channels on YT. I do not even read comments under the videos when I rarely go to watch abotu something important. I guess they think voiceng their lies there helps. Although with tiny number of people watching those videos, I am not sure how.
