A bone of contention that early adopters have always had to deal with is quick outdating or incompatibility with hardware that was new just a few months prior. Particularly when it comes to processor compatibility, Intel has been notorious for releasing CPUs that make previous generation motherboards worthless.

Thankfully, some vendors try to avoid that. With the new 1333MHz FSB processors from Intel, Asustek will be offering BIOS updates on older motherboards that will enable them to function. This will include their boards based upon the P965 and 975X chipsets, neither of which are "officially" able to support these CPUs. They'll also be offering the update to boards using the nForce 650i SLI and 680i SLI chipsets.

Given how often processors receive updates that make them incompatibles with older boards, this is something very welcome.
