Dell has been making gains in the server market, claims the IDC, demonstrating that perhaps their recent overhauling of their marketing strategy is playing out. For the past few months, Dell has seen a significant revenue jump, with an increase over 20%.

This doesn't change their position in their market, but it does strengthen their position as the #4 dealer. They weren't alone in growth, however, with the industry as a whole seeing a gain. While they haven't specified, it is likely that their adoption of Opteron processors for their servers has played a part in their growth. If they continue at this rate, they may be able to overtake Sun.

As an interesting sidenote, the IDC report also detailed growth based on OS choice and showed that Linux has grown for the past five quarters, now claiming 13.6% of money poured into building Linux-based servers.
