While Apple would like nothing more than to help AT&T keep their stranglehold on iPhone service, once again their newest iteration of the unit has been unlocked. Just days after the launch of the iPhone 3G, people have discovered ways to allow the device to be used on any network, employing methods similar to those that were used to unlock the original iPhone.

The high cost of the iPhone 3G in other countries might be prohibitive up front, and the coupling of it with only a specific service vendor leaves many people unhappy. While Apple did cave to some governments to offer unlocked phones such as in France, for the most part they are intent on making sure AT&T gets their slice of the pie. Hopefully, future firmware updates for the iPhone 3G won't cripple these phones as has happened in the past.
