The Dell U2718Q is a decent monitor in its own right, but its flaws put it behind a lot of cheaper, and better-performing products. It’s only advantage is it has a functioning HDR compatibility, but even in that regard, options are limited. At this time, it’s still difficult to find content which takes advantage of the technology, and prospective buyers might need to wait longer.

The Dell Ultrasharp U2718Q is a very good 27-inch 4K IPS LCD monitor with HDR support, great ergonomics and a wide viewing angle. Its picture quality is decent, but although it supports HDR, there is not much advantage to using it. It has great low input lag for gaming. Dark room performance isn't the best as blacks appear gray and it has visible backlight bleed and poor black uniformity.

For those that decide they don’t need the best color around and absolutely want 4K (or if video is your main gig), I can still definitely recommend the U2718Q.

The Dell UP2718Q is, for now, a unique monitor. It’s the first zone-dimming backlight we’ve seen in a desktop display, and the first consumer-level panel that can truly do justice to HDR content. Coupled with reasonably accurate color that extends all the way up to Adobe RGB, you’re looking at a high-end mastering screen at a relatively affordable price. $1500 may seem like a lot, but in the professional realm it’s a bargain. Users looking to outfit their Ultra HD video post-production systems may want to give it a serious look.
