I guys, new to this forum today, just carried out the outstep thingymabob. Thought id do it as sometimes when clicking on google links im redirected to random sites, and a pop up appeared just know trying to do this and avg blocked two threats.
anyway, please find logs atached

Welcome to the forum. I am so glad you didn't run random programs trying to clean your badly infected system! Please stay away from the Video Egg and Weatherbug sites!

I will need to write some script to remove some entries. It's usually run using Combofix:

Please download ComboFix from Here and save to your Desktop.

  • [1]. Do NOT rename Combofix unless instructed.
    [2].Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
    [3].Close any open browsers.
    [4]. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts to run.
  • NOTE: Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet as soon as it starts. The connection is automatically restored before CF completes its run. If it does not, restart your computer to restore your connection.
    [5]. If Combofix asks you to install Recovery Console, please allow it.
    [6]. If Combofix asks you to update the program, always allow.
  • Please do not attempt to re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.
    [7]. A report will be generated after the scan. Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt in next reply.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.
Note: Make sure you re-enable your security programs, when you're done with Combofix..
Re-enable your Antivirus software.

Run Eset NOD32 Online AntiVirus scan HEREhttp://www.eset.eu/online-scanner
  1. Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  2. Click Start
  3. When asked, allow the Active X control to install
  4. Disable your current Antivirus software. You can usually do this with its Notification Tray icon near the clock.
  5. Click Start
  6. Make sure that the option "Remove found threats" is Unchecked, and the option "Scan unwanted applications" is checked
  7. Click Scan
  8. Wait for the scan to finish
  9. Re-enable your Antivirus software.
  10. A logfile is created and located at C:\Program Files\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt. Please include this on your post.

When I have these additional logs, we will go further into the cleaning. In the meantime:
Please do not use any other cleaning programs or scans while I'm helping you, unless I direct you to. Do not use a Registry cleaner or make any changes in the Registry.
 
Thanks so much for helping me... I'm just running the comboFix now, it's just revolted after finding rooting activity... Crap...will post the logs up when it's done..

and after reading the log.txt it seems 5 are from my sister using limewire...somehow I think I may be able to persuade my mum to let me remove it now

  • Return to OTMoveIt3, right click in the "Paste Instructions for Items to be Moved" window and choose Paste.
  • Click the red Moveit! button.
  • A log of files and folders moved will be created in the c:\_OTMoveIt\MovedFiles folder in the form of Date and Time (mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log). Please open this log in Notepad and post its contents in your next reply.
  • Close OTMoveIt3
If a file or folder cannot be moved immediately you may be asked to reboot the machine to finish the move process. If you are asked to reboot the machine choose Yes.

You might want to pass this on a good reasons to remove LimeWire:
Even if you are using a "safe" P2P program, it is only the program that is safe.
  • As long as you are using file sharing networks and programs which are from sources that are not documented, you cannot verity that a download is legitimate.
  • Malware writers use these program to include malicious content.
  • Fie sharing is usually unmonitored and there is a danger that your private files might be accessed.
  • The 'sharing' also includes malware that the shared system has on it.
  • Files that are illegal can be spread through file sharing.

Please read the information on P2P Warning to help you better understand these dangers.
 
When you have finished running OTMoveIt, go on to this:

Please update the Java program to v6u21: Check this site .Java Updates Uninstall all (there are 7) any earlier versions in Add/Remove Programs as they are vulnerabilities to the system.

There is a program named Jumi on the system which allows control of your PC from anywhere. Is this a program that was intentionally installed? There are ports in the firewall that are globally open for this- meaning that any account can access them.

LimeWire and uTorrent, both file sharing programs are both running. I recommend that both of these be uninstalled for the reasons I have previously given.

11/07/2010 There are several of these errors: error: ACPI [5] - AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to write to an illegal IO port address (0x90), which lies in the 0x90 - 0x91 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please see this Microsoft site referencing this Error: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283649

Please let me know if the original malware related problem have been resolved.
Leave the Combofix report after runnning the script in your next reply.
 
ComboFix looked exactly the same as before, did the same number od stages etc... didnt know if it was supposed to do?

also, im aware that jumi is on the computer. It is an application i use to control the computer with my iphone..., windows media player mainly but everything so long as im in the network
 
Which java should i remove? i have taken the picture off my phone and put on photobucket as i thought you probably wouldnt open an atachment from my computer


EDIT: Image of Java entries has been removed as unneeded..
 
and regarding the errors, that would explain why CPU is so high and windows sometimes freeze? but i have absolutely no idea what any of that information on microsoft means so il leave that bit
 
and to post yet another reply, the redirecting issues seem to have gone. Went on history andtried the same search, none redirected and ive typed other random words in to google and no redirect when i click on the links.... so thanks very much. Now i can sort out a few other computer problems i have although you have to check the logs first and see if all clear?

As long as you continue to actively load and use LimeWire and uTorrent, you will continue to get malware.

Download the HijackThis Installer HERE and save to the desktop:
  1. Double-click on HJTInstall.exe to run the program.
  2. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis.
  3. Accept the license agreement by clicking the "I Accept" button.
  4. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
  5. Click "Save log" to save the log file and then the log will open in notepad.
  6. Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
  7. Come back here to this thread and paste (Ctrl+V) the log in your next reply.

NOTE: Do NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet! Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

What does that mean? I have removed both limewire and uTorrent, also all the javas except update21.

also, I have a laptop, which I darent connect to network when this is, and I was wondering which program ishould use to detect malware/spyware. Im using AVG free anti-virus. This computer has AVG and spybotS&D but ive heard Spybot isnt very good

No, probably not. It means this process is on the Startup menu- it does not need to be. So first, take it off the Start menu and that will prevent the install error. Then, if when you choose this program from All Programs, it does not work correctly for you, reinstall it but do not put on Startup.

Here is my recommendation for security programs- no matter which computer it is for:
Have layered Security:
  • Antivirus Software(only one): Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:
    [o]Avira Free
    [o]Avast Home
  • Firewall (only one): Use bi-directional firewall. Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:
    [o]Comodo
    [o] Zone Alarm
  • Antispyware: I recommend all of the following:
    [o]Spywareblaster: SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX. It places kill bits to stop bad Active X controls from being installed. Remember to update it regularly.
    [o]IE/Spyad This places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
    [o]MVPS Hosts files This replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
    [o]Google Toolbar Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.

By the looks of it the 5 virus from limewire have been moved to somewhere YAY and two remain, win32 olmarik trojan

There are no new viruses in the Eset scan:
Qoobox is where Combofix puts it's quarantined filed. That malware is not longer active in the system. The entry will be removes at the end when I have you remove the cleaning tools and their logs.

System Volume is where the system restore points are. Entries in there are no longer active in the system. They will be removed at the end of cleaning. Doing a system restore could reinfect the system if you happened to choose a date that was infected. But you should not be doing a system restore while cleaning.

I don't know why the speakers are making those sounds, but I do not believe it's caused by malware.

Please empty the Java cache:
Control Panel> Java> Temporary internet files section> Settings> Delete the files> Close

Please update the Adobe Reader: Visit this Adobe Reader site and make sure you have the most current update. (I think it's v9.xxx- you have v7. Uninstall any earlier updates as they are vulnerabilities.

The system looks good. Please rescan with HijackThis and paste the new log in the next reply
 
Deleted the java cache as requested. Downloaded adobe and the previous version has removed itself. Regarding the speakers then, mmmm, ill just keep em muted then!

regarding Roxio Media Manager, i dont know how to find out if it is startup, there doesnt seen to be any files relating to it left on computer.

EDIT:
i typed msconfig into the 'run' boz. and went onto 'start up'. I unchecked ISUSPM which was the process i had to end to stop windows installer trying to install roxio. this has stopped it appearing at start up but i get a message to say that windows is in diagnostic mode because i editied windows startup, and to select the normal start up mode in msconfig which will return the startup to what is was before

will it now be safe for me to connect an external Hard Drive to retrieve some files from this computer to put on mylaptop or should i wait?i have downloaded to the recommendations for security programs on my laptop so i should be alright? ill wait for you to give the go ahead, i dnt want to screw that up aswell.

This nag message will come up the first time you reboot after making a change in Startup using the msconfig utility.

There is a box you can check that says don't show this message any more then close the message
You must stay in Selective Startup to keep the changes you have made

I try to warn people about this when I tell them to use msconfig. It jars everyone if they're not expecting it. By the way, all of my computers get put in Selective Startup by the second day I have them. And I keep them that way.

The HijackThis log looks good. I would like to caution you about the 016 entries. Those are for for Active X Objects- you'll find them in Tools> Manage add-ons. Try to get these down to a few as possible. By nature, Active X Objects are not the most secure.

I also see some processes for the digital camera running and processes for 2 printers> HP and Epsom. Those don't need to start either.

Here's the Roxio process:
O23 - Service: LiveShare P2P Server 9 (RoxLiveShare9) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Roxio Shared\9.0\SharedCOM\RoxLiveShare9.exe (file missing)

Go to Start> Run>type in services.msc> double click on this Service and set the Startup type to either Disabled or Manual according to how you will use it.

System is clean. Let's get rid of the tools:
Removing all of the tools we used and the files and folders they created
  • Uninstall ComboFix and all Backups of the files it deleted
  • Click START> then RUN
  • Now type Combofix /Uninstall in the runbox and click OK. Note the space between the X and the U, it needs to be there.

  • Download OTCleanIt by OldTimer and save it to your Desktop.
  • Double click OTCleanIt.exe.
  • Click the CleanUp! button.
  • If you are prompted to Reboot during the cleanup, select Yes.
  • The tool will delete itself once it finishes.

Note: If you receive a warning from your firewall or other security programs regarding OTC attempting to contact the internet, please allow it to do so.
  • You should now set a new Restore Point and remove the old restore points to prevent infection from any previous Restore Points.
  • Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools
  • Click "System Restore".
  • Choose "Create a Restore Point" on the first screen then click "Next".
  • Give the Restore Point a name> click "Create".
  • Go back and follow the path to > System Tools.
    [*]Choose Disc Cleanup
    [*]Click "OK" to select the partition or drive you want.
    [*]Click the "More Options" Tab.
    [*]Click "Clean Up" in the System Restore section to remove all previous Restore Points except the newly created one.


Empty the Recycle Bin

removed olt, and combofix. The only tools left on my comp is GMER, malwarebytes and the cleaner used in step one of the 8 step malware removal. Am i ok to simply uninstall these?

regarding system restore, it has i dont think ever beenturned on as when i click on "sstem Restore" i get a dialog box reading:" system restore has been turned off. Do you want to turn on system Restore? YES/NO.

YES you want System Restore turned on! Turn it on and set a new Restore Point. Let me know if you have any problem getting it turned on.
 
ermoved everything apart from GMER and step 1 of the 8-step guide as these do not appear in the add/remove progrtams.... can i simply delete these from desktop? that is the application isnt it?no need touninstall....
 
Do a right click> Delete on gmer.log and the same on the setup, both on the desktop.The setup may be downloaded.exe or some other random name. I'm going to close the thread now, but leaving some tips for continued security:

Please follow these simple steps to keep your computer clean and secure:

Stay current on updates:
  • Visit the Microsoft Download Sitefrequently. You should get All updates marked Critical and the current SP updates: Windows XP> SP2, SP3.
  • Visit this Adobe Reader site often and make sure you have the most current update. Uninstall any earlier updates as they are vulnerabilities.
  • Check this site .Java Updates Stay current as most updates are for security. Uninstall any earlier versions in Add/Remove Programs.

Make Internet Explorer safer. Follow the suggestions HERE This Tutorial will help guide you through Configuring Security Settings, Managing Active X Controls and other safety features.

Do regular Maintenance
  • Remove Temporary Internet Files regularly:
    [o]ATF Cleaner by Atribune
    OR
    [o]TFC
  • Disable and Enable System Restore:
    [o]See System Restore Guide This will help you understand what this is, why you need to clean and set restore points and what information is in them.
Have layered Security:
  • Antivirus Software(only one): Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:

    [o]Avast Home
  • Firewall (only one): Use bi-directional firewall. Both of the following programs are free and known to be good:
    [o]Comodo
    [o] Zone Alarm
  • Antispyware: I recommend all of the following:
    [o]Spywareblaster: SpywareBlaster protects against bad ActiveX. It places kill bits to stop bad Active X controls from being installed. Remember to update it regularly.
    [o]IE/Spyad This places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
    [o]MVPS Hosts files This replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your computer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer.
    [o]Google Toolbar Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
