A few of us here at Techspot were pondering how prevelent gaming on multi-monitor desktops is, and this poll is looking to gain some insight into the answer.
Hopefully we get enough votes from the Techspot membership to give us a reasonably valid snapshot.

The choices are:
1.Single screen
2.Multiple screens (please add your native screen resolution)

As a secondary question you can add in the comments section:

If you are presently using a single standard LCD/CRT monitor of 1980 x 1080 or lower and had the budget to afford to either buy multi-monitor for gaming, or spend the equivalent budget on a single screen of better colour reproduction (i.e. a 27"-30" 2560x1440 or 2650x1600 display) which would you opt for...or would you use the budget on other componentry ?

Thank you for your participation. There are no prizes.

I'll start the ball rolling....
Given the pricing structure I would always opt for quality of colour reproduction over extra screen real estate.
1900x1200 (HP ZR24W) primary rig, 1920x1080 (VX2433wm - TN panel) secondary, 1920x1080 (Samsung Bordeaux 6 HDTV for HTPC duties)

And since i am part of the ponder, i will go second ,
for non-gaming /productivity 3 x 1+2 extended 9600 x 1080 (equivalent)
for gaming 3 x 1 landscape 5760 x 1080
would love to have all ISP, but I work with 4+up Photoshop + Word/Access/Excel etc, so the extra screen-estate and lack of toggling is a better option for me.

I use a multi display setup for my linux machine, but I don't do any gaming there. I use a single display setup for my gaming rig (fluctuating between 24-27" monitors right now) with resolutions of 1920x1200 or 1920x1080. I say fluctuating because my 24" just died and I picked up this 27" Samsung S27A350H which I really dislike and am about to return. We'll see what I end up with next. If I had the cash I'd get a 30" Dell.

To directly answer the question: 1

Answering on a 13" MBP at 1280x800.

My primary PC has 2 22" monitors at 1920x1080 each. I don't game on both though, I game on one and use the other to have task manager, ICQ, and whatever else I want to be able to glance at open.

If I had the money for a larger/better monitor I would not get one and instead buy a newer CPU/Mobo and RAM.

I game with a 24in 1920x1080 screen... would love to buy 2 more and go 5760x1080 for the massive advantage in online FPS games ;) but that would mean buying another GTX 570 in SLI, buying a new desk and moving the furniture/cables around the living room. Might do it as part of my next upgrade though, monitors are very cheap nowadays.

Anyway to answer the original question I'm reading this on 3 screens at work.

3600x1050/80 pixels. One 24" LG (1920x1080), one 22" LG (1680x1050).

If I was solely gaming I'd go for a 27/30" 2560x1440/1600) display. For work multiple desktops is more efficient. I'm aiming for triple 1080p 24/27" displays next, but not until I pull my finger out and get the computer upgraded.

Finally returned that Samsung S27A350H (just couldn't take it any more) because everything just looked so washed out on it. Also, the lack of inputs (just an HDMI and an HD15) really hurt its chances. It's bad enough I was forced to move from 16:10 to 16:9, but to have all those other issues (the lack of VESA mounting capabilities too) made me return it and get the older Samsung P2770HD instead. I've only had it for one day but I already like it better. Color reproduction seems much better (though it's not LED) and it has a nice set of inputs. It's not nearly as thin as the last monitor, but at least I can mount it at a later time if I decide to do so. I'm still stuck with 16:9, though, but at least I added a TV tuner so I don't have to worry about my old TV card. If I could afford a Dell U2711 or a Dell U3011 then I would've gotten one of those, but they're just outside of my reach for now.

I have two NEC MultiSync 1570NX displays on each side of my larger display. They are being driven by my Foxconn 9600GT.

Then I have my 23" Samsung TV in the middle being driven by my EVGA GTS450...for gaming. :)
