Ads killing forum load speed

Whenever I actually see a banner ad, at random times, I click on it just to help out Techspot... great place man. :grinthumb

I'm glad to finally have that fixed, as I was having the same loading problem yesterday, and simply had to keep hitting refresh to get rid of it. All seems to be running flawlessly now.

Acid0smosis, I have figured out why it loads like it does. It appears to only load the advertisement when it is the Match.com one. I had this problem a lot yesterday and it just clicked on me that is the reason I had to keep hitting refresh when that ad loaded. I'm not sure if it is scripted wrong, but I would have to think so.

Well I was still experiencing the same problem at work yesterday. I don't know it if is only there or what, I'll check it out and let you know after browsing today.

I'm having problems with the pages intermittently loading. Most of the time it loads fine - but sometimes (not too rarly) it will not load the actual forum - just the ads and toolbars. I still have to reload sometimes.

Happened again after that last post

I was nice and used some compression on that image and shrunk the window down a bit.

Thats funny Papa, probably happened to me at the same time, because I just experienced the same thing about a half hour or so ago.

Whenever I get the Match.com banner up top the rest of the page doesn't load for me - I think there is one other banner that causes this problem but I don't remember which one. I'll edit this if it happens again.

I'm having the same problem, didn't realize it was connected with a certain ad though, thought is was something on my end.

I will see where is that ad coming from (probably Burst since it has created problems before) and have it removed from rotation. Thanks for your help!

Well it seems to be happening again. Today I tried to get on to TS and it took a while to load. So I figured it was just busy, well it wasn't. After looking a little farther it appears that it is taking about 30-40 seconds to get a page to load because of the tribalfusion ad. It is always the one that is trying to load in my status bar and once it loads TS zooms away, but until it does (umpteen seconds later) I'm just waiting.

Just thought I would see if anyone else is having the same problem?

Or if there was something that could be taken care of behind the scenes, Julio?

same here Poert, and for me, the tribalfusion ad never loads, it always gives up or something because it always loads as a broken image, then the rest of the page will start loading. I have the same thing happen with both IE6 and with Firefox.

I was having that problem earlier, but it seems to have resolved itself. Also my burstnet has seemed to heal itself as well. Tribalfusion tries to load at the top but I never see a banner, the space is taken up, but there is no rex or anything, yet if I place the mouse over it it pops up the link address.
itxt.vibrantmedia.com recently has been taking up to 1.5 minutes to load up, which screws up my go to first unread post click...

If you do see what address causes it do this:

Open your c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

File and add the address that caused problems into it.

Example, SNGX1275 was having problem with the address: itxt.vibrantmedia.com

He would add this to the END of his hosts file:

127.0.0.1 itxt.vibrantmedia.com #Disable loading of this AD

The 127.0.0.1 will cause your browser to look for itxt.vibrantmedia.com on your local computer, but since there will be none (unless you are running a webserver on it) it will time out (around 3ms) and you will get a HTTP Error 404 image in it's place.
The # part is just a comment so you will remember what it does and is optional

If this works, i,e, your loadtimes goes back to normal please post back telling us what address you disabled and it will be much easier for me and Julio to diagnose the problem....

This is a solution. I once installed the hosts file update that came with Kazaa lite and there are no ad problems for me with TS at home.

I don't like doing that or telling people to do that because it will take away from TS's advertising and people will add it to their host files and not click on the ads.
Aside from that today it seems to be loading a lot better. I haven't seen any hiccups yet, but I'll let you guys know if I find it again.

well, I have a fix too, I just turn on full adblocking features of NPF and problem solved, but as Poert said, it takes away from TS advertising. While I hate ads in all forms, I have always made an effort to allow them to load for TS because I believe in supporting this place.

You got me wrong, I wanted you to try to block them just to verify what AD's was causing you problems.

So it would become easier for me and Julio to diagnose the real problem and fix it.

itext.vibrantmedia.com has caused problems for me too... Haven't added them to my host file, as I could track the site progress through the Opera status bar...

But I just thought it was my ISP who had some problems with it's connection...

Obviously I won't support ad blocking as a solution, you know our take on that subject... anyhow earlier today I got a report from Tribal Fusion (ad agency) who confirmed a problem with their servers that lasted a few hours, the problem was solved ASAP and things should be working fine now.

Yes tribalfusion is fixed, but it seems that now vibrantmedia is slowing down as Mr. G has stated. But luckily this one is loading after the forum loads, so I just see it in my status bar. It is taking over a minute to get loaded.

They too seems to have recovered, as I no longer has any problems with them...

And it was only a problem when wanting to go to first unread post, as I'd have to wait for the page to finish loading for it to work..
