It's true but the minority who do own the 4090 and use dlss even set to quality at 4k ( with 1440p sample) and 4k performance ( 1080 p sample) which is a must if you want to delve into rt gaming in most titles today the performance delta is significant respectively to those resolutions.
FYI the 7800X3D fell to $399 with the purchase on new motherboard at microcenter and $419 standalone.
Who knew that one of the biggest promoters of the 4090 would be AMD.

Can confirm 7800X3D is stupid fast at 1440p. Should be able to play well with a couple generations of high end GPUs without limiting them.

The 5800x3d is the better option for most people that already own a AM4 board and don't have a 4090. If it is a new build, get the 7800x3d of course, not sure why you would by AM4 vs AM5 unless its low budget, in which case, you probably be better off getting something even cheaper than the 5800x3d as your GPU probably wouldn't need the 5800x3D anyway.

Unfortunately, many of us, myself included, are nowhere near a Microcenter and the cost to travel to one would likey outweigh the savings. B&H, since they allow online orders, is my "retailer" of choice.

Yes, what I was saying is that the 5800X3D only makes sense if you are on AM4 already and that there is no reason to build AM4 with a 5800X3D. So absolutely, go AM5 if you are building new unless you need to go really low budget, but if you are doing that, X3D makes no sense either way.

I finally upgraded from my ancient i5-4670k, to an Ryzen 7 5700X. Tossed it in a nice Gigabyte B550 board. Didn't want to deal with AM5 being new and having teething problems. Furthermore, if you put me in front of an "5800X3D" or "7800X3D" system, I bet I wouldn't even know the difference. I wouldn't even notice the difference between the 5700X I chose, compared to the 5800X3D. As long as the game play is smooth, and not jittery, what what benefit is there going to the "latest and greatest"?

AM4 users can still work for years knowing the 5950X or 5800X3D depending on your wishes.

I don't need the lastest and greatest. I'll be super happy with a 5700X as an upgrade to my 1700. I'm actually thinking of a 5600 for $100 at AliExpress.

I'm more interested in modded Skyrim, TW3, Dwarf Fortress, Factorio, MSFS. My bet is these games all function at about the same on either CPU, but the 5800X3D is substantially cheaper. You get the x3d CPUs for the v-cache. Testing the non-v-cache impacted games is goofy, the 13700k is going to be cheaper and probably outperform the 7800X3D in those games anyway, since they're primarily core speed limited.

I upgraded from a 5700x to a 5800x3d, its deffinatly noticable (90 fps vs 160 fps on same settings mw2)
