AT&T has announced that they will be offering the HTC One X handset to customers on May 6. The first phone to launch on AT&T’s network with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will sell for $199.99 with a standard two-year service agreement.

The HTC One X is the flagship phone in the One line and features a 4.7-inch 720p HD (1280 x 720 resolution) screen with Corning Gorilla Glass, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor (the global version has a quad-core CPU but select countries like the US only get a dual-core version), 32GB of internal memory and 1GB of system RAM.

The CPU tradeoff includes a 4G LTE radio so it might be worth losing two cores for faster network access. There’s also HSPA+ to fall back on should you be out of LTE range. And of course, WiFi is standard.

HTC has packed this smartphone with an 8MP rear camera that used an f/2.0 aperture at a 28mm focal length. The shooter is capable of 1080p video recording; the front-facing camera is good for 720p video chats.

Another first for an AT&T handset is the inclusion of Beats Audio, a combination of hardware and software enhancements led by hip-hop / rap mogul Dr. Dre. As an aside, HTC owns a 51 percent stake in Beats Audio.

AT&T will start taking pre-orders for the HTC One X on April 22 at any company-owned retail store or online.

the dual core S4 in the US version is faster generally then the quad core Tegra3. S4 has much higher per core IPC performance.
