ATI's R600 appears to be a complete monster...

Damn, ATi/AMD has gotta get rid of all those X's in the card names. There must be ~100 capital X's in this thread so far...

And yes, wolfram I do want to play at 1920x1200 or at least 1680x1050. If I could afford it, I'd get a 3007WFP so I could play at 2560x1600 (twice as big as 1080p). I just find that 1280x1024 is too small for me.

What about XFX, how does this sound
    XFX 8800GTX XXX
That is an actual card too lol.

And its not twice as big as 1080P, 1080P is 1920x1080

Like I said, Crysis WILL run on DX9 with ALL the eyecandy it will have on DX10. The DX10 mode will simply be FASTER for owners of DX10 hardware, not more [content/eyecandy/etc.]-rich.

Besides, if all of the new games were DX10 only, who would play them? Surely not even 75% of all gamers are going to upgrade to DX10 just to continue playing games. And while you might say they could get something like a 8600GS for cheap, would they want that if say right now they have an X1900XT? Obviously not.

How about 640x480? I use that to play most FPS's. Not because I can't crank up the res., but because I find it easier to play at that res. More focusing on objectives rather than good-looks (though Crysis will definitely not be run at 640x480 by me, it's WAY too pretty....)

wow, that's sick! amd will probably whoop nvidia's behind.. if it indeed comes in the same price range. Would be nice to see this card versus the geforce 8900gx2 if it comes out :p.
But still, I think I'll wait with purchasing anything new until directx 10 and vista are well settled, and the graphics cards aren't coming out this fast. I mean, the 7 series are anything but old, and now the 8 series are out already. Oh well, my dear 7600GT will serve fine until then =)

It isn't one card. Currently it's only the X2800, which should be rivaling the 8800. If you wanna rival the "8900GX2" you should wait for a "X2950XTX" =).

Also, I don't know where but somewhere I read that there'll be quad-crossfire (with 4 physical cards)... Any ideas?

I wouldn't like to have a 2kW PSU just to run four X2800XT's... Imagine your electricity bill $$$$$$$....

But if you want to play Crysis and other DX10 games, you'd need to run Vista :unch:, and you know, Vista drivers are very crappy. I'm gonna use XP for a LONG LONG time, (maybe two months :p), so I'll be using DX9 for a while. So I may get that precious X1950XTX :)

Yes it is. Multiply 1920x1080 and you get 2.1 megapixels. Multiply 2560x1600 and you get 4.1 megapixels.

You will probably have to run it at 640x480 :stickout: With your video card if you put everything on max you'd probably need 640x480 to get 50FPS. Hell even my card would probably need 1024x768 to get decent FPS...

I wonder how it would run on my old integrated GeForce 6150 :haha: !
  10. wolfram TechSpot Paladin Posts: 2,605   +9

It wouldn't even start at all ;)
  11. agi_shi Newcomer, in training Posts: 507

Actually, it'll run on medium-high at ~800x600 on my card.

But by then I'll be running a X1950XTX, so no problems ;)

    X1950xt 230$

WOW, the X1950XT is only 230$ now. And according to benchmarks theres barely any difference between this and the X1950XTX... Soon it'll drop to <200$, which'll be awesome! (And BTW I can't find any X850XT anymore :( )

Nice specs, but let's wait for a newer, hopefully more power efficient revision ;)

I just saw somewhere that ATI's R700 should run much cooler, and be cheaper to manufacture. Hmmm, a X3950XTX :p
  15. agi_shi Newcomer, in training Posts: 507

    Wow, R600 isn't out yet and we're onto the R700... ;)

If the X2900XTX is truly and really a lot faster than the 8800/8900GTX, I'm sure lots will buy it no matter how power-hungry it was. 240W it eats I believe? Hmm... Instead of upgrading my 480W Truepower II (Antec) (because it's perfectly good and stable), I'll instead go for a dedicated graphics power supply.

I know this is an old thread, but while I was consulting it for stats about R600, I noticed that it has been brought up that the X1950XTX rivals the 8800GTS...

I was wondering where this information came from, as a single 8800GTS/GTX are over 70% better than dual X1950XTXs according to benchmarks.
  17. wolfram TechSpot Paladin Posts: 2,605   +9

The X1950 XTX may rival a 320MB Geforce 8800GTS if you use a smaller resolution like 1280x1024, because the later may be limited by the CPU.

But if you game beyond 1280x1024, and use lots of AA & AF, then the 8800 series destroy the X1900 series.

Oh... ok thanks for clearing that up wolf :) They both destroy my 7950 ;)
