Australian government to censor the Internet by 2011

  1. I think its a great move that should serve as a roll model for other countries to follow. Consider the mass amounts of violence and age-inappropriate material in the media now, the internet is no different, in fact it is much worse with browser headlines such a yahoo or msn reading like the national enquirer, which means its that much easier for young children to get distracted from constructive/meaningful things. So to defend violence and bloodshed is simply wrong, what's that saying..garbage in garbage out.
  2. Irresponsible parents encourage a home atmosphere that allows their children to view such materials.

The move from government is NOT to protect kids, it's to protect themselves because the internet exposes their corruption easily compared to any other form of media. That is why they want to shut off the net or restrict which sites people visit.

While the first article linked is indeed troublesome due to its vagueness, there intent with protecting the US's cyber infrastructure is good. Just the way they are approaching it is not imo and needs to change.

And to the other guest who appears rather delusional...check out the below link.

    http://www.aclu.org/free-speech/supreme-court-refuses-revive-online-censorship-law

No one is going to censor the internet with fake intentions like protecting kids. This is an issue that both vocal liberal and conservatives unit on (smart ones at least even if they wont admit it). Very much like net neutrality. Unless you're of course Glen Beck delusional and anything the other side does is "NAZI BAD FOR AMERICA AND CAPITALISM"...in which case you might support censorship as long as its not your opinions/views.

And socialism and censorship are not the same thing. The US already shares and has for some time socialist beliefs long before Obama. But maybe you and Craig Nelson are friends who don't think we have socialist programs...

Roll model to give government absolute power over the masses? No thanks, stop being lazy and learn how to moderate. And using violence and bloodshed as a smoke screen is even worse.

It seems like Australian government is trying to make sure something is not viewed online. Almost is af the have something to hide. It makes no sense as to why their government would want to monitor what is viewed online. What would they see as "appropriate" there? Depending on the government's views, they could block any site that they wish. Glad I will not be living there in 2011.

I hear tell the internet is already heavily censored in Iran. This is useful to conceal such joyous social phenomena such as their rigged elections.

Perhaps Australia might hook up with Iran's IT techs. They could hammer out the details or at minimum provide a template for oppression.

Perhaps software to automatically cover any image of a nude woman with a burka.

Oh, and "Baywatch" reruns would be filtered out also. Well there now, who said there wasn't an upside! :haha:
  6. red1776 Omnipotent Ruler of the Universe

....what!? covering Pam Anderson in her early years with a burka! that's not even funny Cap! :p:haha::wave:
  7. captaincranky TechSpot Addict

Now you stop right there mister, I find implant scars sticking through a bathing suit quite offensive....
You don't know until you've tried it. I think a new theme song for the show would be in order. "Bouncing Baywatch Boobies on Bounding Babes in Blue Burkas", might be catchy enough to hang on to at least one or two sponsors. Hey, that might really kick a** on the electric Oud........!

Thou art truly the master of alliteration.....and boobies

or....sand surfing sexies serving cpr on the sea shore......anyone know what the hell im talking about?

I dont think hes quite socialist, i know some people who live in Australia and I talk to them regularly. He is a "social conservative"

Honestly i think Austrailia is on a better path than we are here in the US, even if all of there s**t is getting censored.

    I just lol'd

I think thats going in my sig

But i will take this opportunity to say this.

I know several people who voted Obama in, and all but one say they regret it.

I am pissed off at the Americans who so ignorantly threw that trash in the white house.

Im not by any stretch of the imagination rascist, but Im also not by any stretch of the imagination socialist.

Im a born and raised southern republican, and I absolutely cant wait for my chance to vote and get Obama out of there.

    Heil George.....

Really, have we forgotten the "glory years" of George W. Bush so soon? To be brief, all electronic media were being searched without the formality of a warrant, and under the most flimsy of excuses. I honestly don't think the country could have survived a third term with that a**hole, or at least without becoming Stalinist Russia. People confuse "social conservatism" with outright stupidity. I equate it to abolishing the constitution because of a, "Jesus would have wanted us to", "born again christian, propaganda crap-a -thon", which now seems to accompany any Republican candidate being elected..!

To side with you at least in part, without Obama (or any African American President), we wouldn't have Oprah Winfrey's nose up the Commander in Cheif's a**!
  13. Relic TechSpot Chancellor

You can say whatever you want, even delusional nonsense :stickout:!

I know lots of people who regretted voting Bush in  , think we all do lol. In any case, Obama is far from being a socialist. And if he's even trying to be one...he's failing miserably. And honestly I'm not to pleased with everything he's doing either but given the alternative which would have been McCain, I'm happy he's not there. His time was in 2000 when he should have been the Republican candidate imo over Bush but hey...that illegitimate black child nonsense kinda ruining it all.

The Ole Gurls Dun Fer John.... Her Head Gaskets Blown....

It was a miserable package deal also. The McCain- Palin ticket should have been billed as, "Shell Shocked and the MILF Queen"! The Secret Service's duties would have had to be expanded to include following Palin around with an air tank, to make sure the air pressure in her head didn't fall below critical levels. What with it leaking out her ears every time she opened her mouth and all. They say if you put her up to your ear, you could almost hear the Bering Sea.

"Maverick, maverick, maverick, maverick, maverick".....isn't sort of like the noise you get when you drive on a flat tire....?

Maybe Mattell will get a doll idea from her, "Over the Hill, and Startin' to Spread, Alaska Barbie", dog sled and binoculars to see Russia sold separately.

Sure you already heard of this site, most of what ya said reminded me of it.
  16. captaincranky TechSpot Addict

Upon Further Reflection, Palin's Book is Good for Something.....

Well Relic, I actually hadn't seen the site in your link, but that was truly comical.

Ever the critic, I would have changed the world globe to a flat slab, or at very least a cube. This could at least offer the potential for Palin to fall off the edge while practicing to walk in high heels, size 16 (+?) bikini, and a (likely much needed) push-up bra, with a copy of her book on her head.

Frankly, the general populations capacity for stupidity and gullibility never fails to "dumbfound" me. (Pun and oxymoron intended). They could have dismissed Palin with the simplicity of the truth, "not a bad looking broad for a 40 something, and she's got a decent ****". But noooo, people want to read her "book", which frankly has to resemble a rough draft of the script for the movie "Idiocracy".

In keeping with the censorship theme of the thread, perhaps Sarah's book should be at least be reclassified as "delusion fantasy" rather than non fiction, and her underage, potentially pregnant daughters be taken out to the woodshed and be forced to read it. This with the stern admonition, "see, this could happen to you, if you don't stop banging these losers and place yourselves in a good foster home".

Dear Guest, this is an interesting "spin" on the old adage, "power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely".

My best advice to anyone concerned about potential censorship is, download all the porn you can now, (even more than you think you're going to need), just so you'll have it in case there's a drought.

And just so as you don't show up in the, "Virus and Malware Removal Forum", rubbing your tear stained eyes and explaining how you, "can't reformat because you'll lose all your erections", don't forget to BACK IT UP...!
  17. hear the interview with South East Asia news to see and hear who is behind the internet censorship

  18. Australia is not a religious country! 16% say they go to church. 30% are not religious at all. 64% say they are christian, but like I said, only 16% actually go to church. I know a lot of people that say they are christian, but they aren't really.

I'm an Australian athiest and very proud of it.

These censorship laws are rediculous. Our prime minister kevin Rudd is an *****. I've met him once in real life when he came to talk at our school, years ago, we were in Brisbane and he said "Hello, it's good to be here in Rockamptom" that's 8 hours north! He is an absolute *****, the only reason people voted for him was because the liberal party wanted to remove all the rights workers have for overtime rates and holidays etc...

In Australia we don't vote for a political party, we just vote out political parties.

They want to censor australians internet access so we can no longer download shows from overseas, I have heaps of shows that you can't get any access to on t.v over here or in the dvd shops. The t.v series Reaper, or the IT crowd, all great shows that we can't ever see over here unless we download them. And they don't want to let us do that any more. If they provided us with more then 4 t.v channels and some programs that weren't complete crap, then we wouldn't have to download any 'illegal' content in the first place.

As for them censoring porn, it's rediculous. This is one of their censorships, 'women with a size A cup are not allowed to be viewed in pornography because they look like boys and it will encourage pedophilia'.

    This country is screwed!

Perhaps the less endowed female porn stars, could sport a "tramp stamp" for the front, so to speak. Something on the order of ,"I'm a girl, and this IS the front". >> (o) (o) << I suppose that might be an acceptable "work around".
