I think only the 9800 Pro would almost evenly match against the 6600GT . also theres the X700 Pro and the X800.

Id still get the 6600GT. watch for it on newegg. I saw one that was on sale for 100$ + shipping. very cost effective video card.

I wouldnt buy from big box stores like circuit city anyway. They're video cards are way overpriced and they dont have that many selections (brands and models)

    I have this fortron 450Watt: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817104954

and im not sure if this is putting out 18A or 24A on the 12v rail =S

Hey guys I don't meen to rush but I need an answer quick. Should I get it in eVGA or ASUS? Thanks please respond.

eVGA - smaller company = more focused on individual customers. and they do mainly video cards so they concentrate on this field a lot = better customer service =]

Hey guys I ordered from newegg and it should be coming in Mon or Tues. But to answer an old question I have a Bestec 300w PSU and if that one isnt gonna do good, im screwed. My dad will be pissed off if this Graphics card dont work. Please help me out guys. Is it gonna do the job?

It depends on what else is in your system. Greater than 300w would be greatly recommended. The card will work, but if it is too high drain combined with the other components, it will just turn off the computer. Example: Was building my system, but got the GeForce 6800 first. So I plugged that into my old eMachines and happily began to play GTA:VC at migh better fps...until I exploded a few too many tanks and the machine turned off. :-D

It is going to be close... keep your fingers crossed. You have 15amps on the 12v rail.

I'd say 50/50 chance of it working....

OK I have a 160GB HD 2 sticks 512MB DDR SDRAM AMD AThlon XP 3200+ two fans(3 with the new card) Will it be ok?

What about disk drives. With what you have now, stressing the system will become a problem. I would just pony up and get a 450w power supply.

Damn this sucks lol. I just think it would be hard to get all the PSU connectors back to where they were. Do you know of any good tutorials for installinga PSU?
  16. joseywales09 Banned Posts: 95

Hey the calculator shows that I will only need 254W.
  17. DonNagual TechSpot Ambassador Posts: 3,564

But keep in mind that most psus only put out about 70% of what they are rated at. So your 300w psu is putting out about 210.

Plus, it is not only the watts that matter, but also how many amps on the various rails.

Well my dad is going to be ****ing pissed. This sucks. Oh and Don didnt you say that some PSUs are much better than 400W ones? I dont know I guess im gonna have to get a new PSU

Hey, you never know. Your PSU may work for you. Give it a shot when your card arrives. If you do need a new PSU, you can get a high quality one for under $40 from newegg (check out the fortron 400w PSUs)
For example, I would take a high quality 350w over a cheap 500w anyday.

I will but just in case, is there a tutorial out there for installing PSUs? Oh and my new card will need a 4 pin connector, which i have, but it is held by these plastic cuff things that keep the cords organized. Do i just cut the cuff and bend the 4 pin around so it can go into the cards fan?
