okay it looks like you could be right. kingston says that the
    KHX8500D2/1G DDR2 ram(the one i have) should be at 2.2V
    :http://www.kingston.com/hyperx/products/khx_ddr2.asp

On the stick itself it says 2.3V

and in th bios it says its running at 2.14-2.16 (varies)

do you think that could be the problem..
btw this is without the "so far faulty" stick inside and everything seems to work fine "touch wood"

Yes. Believe it or not increments of voltage changes can make a big difference. Go into your BIOS and manually change the memory to what it is designed for, save and exit.

so what do u think 2.2 or 2.3? last ting i want is to fry all of them. and then plug the other stick back in?
  4. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

Alright so i went ahead and pluged the 4th stick in and set it to 2.2v for the beginning and so far so good.

You posted 51 minutes ago. Still good? By the way, sorry for the delay but, no, you would not have fried them at 2.3v.

Hey, just happy I could be of help. :) I hate when people have PC/laptop issues.

All of us here are volunteers. Some are professionals and others are not and its a great community.

Also, thanks for letting us know the issue is apparently resolved. This will help others and is another reinforcement that not all memory corruption reads are due to the memory itself but rather the voltage settings. I personally have noticed this trend increase in the past two years.

If you continue to have stability please check in one more time in a week and give us an update.

    Good luck!

well i think i said it too early.. haha
hardware malfunction is back :/ 0x8000000000000002 when fast forwarding a movie just like the last time.
i took out that ram stick and ill see what happens now

anyway again thank you very much and ill update if the problem is solved or is it still here after getting rid of the ram.. but if its still here... god help us xD

god damn it it happened again without the "faulty stick" in :( do you know the minidump i sent you. what information did it contain?
  10. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

im gna put up the voltage to 2.3 now and its weird but it seems to happen mainly when i access the external hdd. right now i was unraring a big game file and watchin a movie. and i fast forward it a small bit and everything seemed fine but then 5 minutes into the movie it crashed agai.. and the worst thing is the bsod doesnt leave a minidump file
  11. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

so i cranked it up to 2.3. started unziping a file and watching a movie and fast forwarding it to random places and boom system has haulted:( ohh im so frustrated.!!! is it possible for an external hard drive to have an impact on the pc? maybe its becouse i havent installed drivers.?
  12. Route44 TechSpot Ambassador Posts: 12,022   +18

Ah Nuts! Yes, an external harddrive can cause the issues you mention. You were still correct in setting the memory to the correct voltage.

Question: Prior to Fastforwarding the movie was the system stable?

Also, what were you using to fastforward, i.e. hardware?
  13. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

yes evrything was fine till i opened a HD .mkv file with WMP and fast forwarded it on the searchbar with my mouse and then it froze on the bsod. what im going to do is ill copy the files that i was playing at the time to the computer. unplug the external and uninstall it and do the same thing but from my internal HDD and ill share the results with you..

    regard maciek:)

We've seen a lot people here deal with the same kind of issues with external harddrives.
  15. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

wel i didnt get a single bsod with the external pluged out and the faulty stick out so far although i did get an error with the stick in and without the hard drive.

did you read the minidump by any chance? what information does it contain?

    regards maciek

No recent minidumps were attached that I can see.
  17. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

No the one that i attached earlier.

wel i got the bsod again today watching a movie with the external pluged in, turned off the pc pluged out the external played the movie again got the bsod again without the external so that means its neither the external or the ram. so i looked back to when my pc was grand and the only thing i can remember changing is the motherboard and sou8ndcard.. i pluged out the sound played the movie and no bsod. fast forward rewind... no blue screens at all. i hope this was the fault but i remember having the sound out and getting the bsod anyway... maybe its the ram AND the sound.. i dnt know what to think of it anymore.

Attach the latest minidumps to your next post.
  20. SpikeyBoiCahir Newcomer, in training Posts: 42

    There is none.
This BSOD doesnt shut down itself and doesnt leave any minidumps. in the event viewer its just described as kernel power loss because i have to shut down the pc manually. im really thinking its the sound card now. i will have to get a different one and try it out. i read a few topics about the sounblaster audigy sb0570 and loads of people had problems installing the drivers on windows 7 as if it was incompatible.
