If not, read pdf from Fastback68 and use paperclip procedure.

It should work on older HP laptops though

From what i've read it isn't possible to short the dell latitude d420, and i cannot boot to usb/cd/floppy dst program (when i hit f12 for the boot menu it just goes to a black screen with "invalid configuration information - please run SETUP program" then the grey/white bios screen. I am under the impression that my only possible option is to have a master password generated for it. Are there any other sites short of ebay that this is available? and is the master password the only possible route? I have already contacted dell and they will not help me because i am not the original owner and the ebay seller i purchased it from isn't either so.

Thanks for the links kimsland. I've read most of that prior to posting but gave those old password programs a try even though they state they don't work for 595b (which i have) and am still at the same conclusion. Are you familiar with the model i have (latitude d420)? Cause in all the shorting articles i have read it is always omitted it and then after searching around the forums here i saw several posts stating it wasn't possible to short it along with a few other models, so i assume i'm out of luck with that. I have literally looked at every chip on the board and have not found anything close to 24 C02. Is there anyway to force the one time bootmenu other than f12 to run the dst program cause f12 doesn't work for me and it just keeps booting past it? I still am under the impression that a late dell master generator is my only option do you agree? thanks again for helping out.

ie Other than all the excellent options, there's also direct links to Dell and product transfer. Someone not long ago tried the contact Dell option one last time and they actually freely gave him the pass (check not too long ago posts.)

If all options in that thread do not help, then your last (and only) hope is to try 3rd party option (eBay or Google these options)
Please note do not take on any offer for payment on this free forum (if approached)
These options are overpriced to what you can get elsewhere lots cheaper
Some members (who will be banned on any notion of asking for payment) post on forums like these with their over-priced options, to desperate members.
