Internet connection problems

Hello,

I ma currently having problems connecting to the net. I am connecting through a sweex router and i have my pc and my xbox360 plugged into it.

This week i have started having problems where i connect but nothing happens i just get a message waiting for the page.

I have checked the connection and the send and receive packages seem very low struggling to get over 100.

When i take the front off the main phone socket and connect the cable into the mains the connection is fine.

I have run sybot and adaware plus virus scanned the pc and nothing has been found.

I have pasted a hijack this log if anyone can help as its driving me mad having to unscrew the phone socket every night.

When i take the front off the main phone socket and connect the cable into the mains the connection is fine.

That means there is an extension socket somewhere with a phone or fax/modem
attached to it,without a filter,or with a faulty filter.

Make sure all other phones/faxes etc using that phone line are filtered.

If you have another computer being used in the building,blame the user.

Failing everything,you can always carry on plugging straight into the clean connection


Bonus advice : Go into msconfig/startup and uncheck 90% of those programs.Just leave the security ones.

Dump Mcafee,get Zone Alarm or Kerio and AVG.Use Firefox instead of IE.

Also i have tried the internet again today and its working fine this is very odd but i aint gonna complain.

Failing that it will be time to try a new filter on the socket downstairs as this is really getting on my nerves now!!

It is also possible, that it is the very act of unplugging and plugging in the cable that is causing your connection issues. Some times, it is a poor crimp on the cable itself that causes intermittent connection problems. Not the most likely cause, but the easiest to check by substituting a known good cable.

What do you mean a poor crimp? in the actual telephone socket itself?

I have tried new filters and they have not worked so again i have taken off the socket isolated the connection and it works fine.

Would you say the socket in the wall could have had it?

I was originally referring to the connector on the cable that is plugging into the socket. It is possible that the socket has been loosened/damaged enough so that it is not making a good connection with the connector on the cable. If everything works fine with the suspect socket out of the configuration, then that may very well be the case.

This could well be the problem. You must plug in a micro-filter for each new broadband or telephone connection or it won't work. These cost about £2, so a cheap fix, hopefully.

I have replaced the filters and it has not helped. I have been using the internet for over a year with a filter on the socket downstairs (where the phone is) and not one upstairs and it worked fine.

I will replace the scoket itself at the weekend and see if that makes a difference.

Am i right in thinking that if i had a pc or router related problem it would not work even if i isolated the connection?
