Microsoft Flight Sim X

MS FlightSimX Bad News

For me, it's time to de-install the game and return to FS2004. FYI, my system consists of an Intel 975XBX2 mother board, 4 gigs of Corsair dominator ram, an Intel dual core E6600 processor, and XFX 7950GT 512 MB DDR3 video card plus all applicable drivers, bio's and anything else that could be a culprit. All other apps run as they should. Just lousy software that should have NEVER been released in its present state. WalMart won't take it back. PITA. Been building machines for 8 years - I know the hardware's just fine.

Whaa? You cant play MFS X with a 7950GT / 4 gigs of RAM?

You should play a real game like Half-life, Counterstrike: Source, Oblivion :D

I don't care for your sarcasm - I never said I couldn't PLAY it (obviously, you didn't understand the problem with the sim), I said the game has no provisions to adjust the screen resolution (other than min, max, etc). All scenery is fuzzy, blurry, poor , etc etc. And, FYI, I do play many fps games and they all run at rates that are perfect - in fact, the frame rate of FSx is fine - it's the damn RESOLUTION - get it??? Resolution (look it up). One of my favs is Half Life 2, btw. Spend most of my spare time on BF2 - . Still work 3 days a week which cuts into my gaming time - at 61, I still need my sleep.

To Mission

Actually, I started using the sim in the "Free Flight" mode since that's the way I used FS2004 all the time. Immediately I was confronted with a huge ****pit display and couldn't even read the airspeed indicator without scrolling down considerably. Anyway, thanks one and all for the comments which were generally useful - it's not the first time I've been burnt by a piece of software that didn't live up to its claims. Perhaps MS will have a patch or two - we'll see.

Resolution

Ted,
Try bringing the resoluton down in the 11 or 1200's. I have a new ATI 512 card, and it does not even have that option of 1400.

This game is utter crap. I mean seriously it runs at 30 FPS and drops sometimes to low 5 FPS. BTW I run a 7900 GTX and have 4 GB of Ram. I can play any game maxed out at 1280x1024 with no problems, including Oblivion, which maxes out at around 100FPS indoor and 40-60 FPS outdoors. This game has been released buggy from the beginning. When the first demo came out of Flight Simulator X, it wasn't playable, second demo had improper textures, half-cars (wheels and axels, no body). The only thing that looked good was the plane and maybe the water. Microsoft's screens of the game with beautiful graphics is a scam, because the game's graphics don't even match Microsoft's screenshots. If a 7900 GTX won't run it properly, maybe a 8800 GTX won't either. I also have a friend who just bought 2 8800 GTX in SLI, and his fps average out at 35 FPS, down to low 10's. So, guys I think we need to tell NVIDIA that the 8800 GTX is not powerful enough to render some lousy game, which does not even look half as good as Oblivion. That's my 2 cents

BTW when you said that you had to scroll down to see the gaguaes, oyu should follow the instructions better, once you get into the ****pit, press the "a" key to scroll through categorys, and you'll finally get back to the 2D view from FS2004

Although I still hold reservations for the game, it is up and running better. Screens are glitchy - scenery seems to blotch unexpectedly - frame rate is poor compared to FS 2004 - I do have the options set at fairly high values which I'm sure does affect the performance. All in all, I hope MS comes out with a couple more badly needed patches to complete the work that should have been done before the release. I'll raise my previous rating from a 1 in 10 to a 3 in 10.

same problem as tanmar

tanmar said:
Worked fine until yesterday. I meet/exceed all the requirement for hardware for this title. ...and now it will not load up at all. Gets to the point that it loads approx 80 MB in ram (out of 520 MB approx once fully loaded) and then stops. Have uninstalled and reinstalled. I'm at a loss as to what it could be. Doesnt make sence to me at all.

Just hit EXACTLY the same problem. Been enjoying the game for a couple of weeks (since Xmas), suddenly it no longer gets past the splash screen. Uninstall and reinstall make no difference. Microsoft support is hopeless as it looks as if I have to pay big bucks. Where do I go from here?

Any chance it's a bad log file/save file? I didn't remove those on the uninstall.

i got the same problem than tanmar and peike.... and maybe a lot more of people... i think that it'S a general problem and we just have to wait for a good samarithan or a patch for this big F***** problem

Viva microsoft! lol

I found a fix for my problem - but it's very ugly.

I did more searching on the internet and found references to this problem (hanging on splash screen) being caused by a corrupt logbook.bin.

I was able to get FSX going again only by deleting this file (in My Documents/Flight Simulator X files/. In fact, I ended up deleting all my rewards files etc as well, and THEN reinstalling. Finally FSX worked again, but I have to start from scratch again in building up rewards.

I just got flight sim X, and when I run the program, the graphics are blurred. I tried to fix this by turning up the graphics quality, but that did not work. What do I need to do to get them cleared up?

Just thought I would point out, so people don't get confused. You can just delete the logbook.bin file. It has "no" other effect on anything in the game. As far as I can tell, its probably nothing but your flight path, i.e. GPS locations, etc. and useless unless you want to map where you flew somehow, or other stuff, which isn't needed in the scenario system. Still wish they would fix the damn bug though, or just put a check in to detect corruption and kill, then recreate, the file when it bugs.

Flight Sim X hangs

Whenever I try to save the game hangs and locks up the pc completely. Pentium D 2.8 overclocked 3.2 nvidia gts 8600 4gh ram What else do I need to make this work??

I recently had similar trouble running FSX that I was able to resolve. My issue was the game would load but then I'd get BSOD when I tried to take off from the runway. I thought it was my video card and/or driver but wound up being my audio driver. Things I tried in my process that you might consider doing:

--Download the FSX SP1 from Microsoft's website; it's supposed to improve game performance.
--make sure your video and audio drivers are up to date.
--make sure your RAM isn't defective. Download the Windows Memory Diagnostic from Microsoft, run it from a floppy and see if your memory is bad (mine was!)
--Try a utility like FSAutostart that allows you to set a configuration for running games; it lets you select what programs and services to shut off before running a game and even gives the option of restarting them all after you exit the game. nice because you can set up as many different configurations as you want, so if one service can be stopped with one game but not another, then each game can have it's own config routine in FSAutostart.
--If all else fails take it back and get Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 Century of Flight; the reviews I read stated it's about as good and runs better and on a lot less hardware than FSX.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the info! The sim runs like a champ until I try to save....even with all the setting maxed.. I appreciate the info
