Microsoft killed cross-platform project because PC gamers wrecked console gamers

Finally some proof??? What proof? This is unsubstantiated rumor at best. Take off the rose tinted glasses and have another read. There is nothing here that a logical sensible person could even mistake for proof. And console gamers don't miss out. I personally prefer my PS3 for games and control method but I enjoy firing up my PC for gaming on occasion too. But IMHO (and with this article that's all anyone can provide) A well mapped gamepad is a massively better input system.
Queue hate.

I think games are to big a part of your life. Basically the reason the mouse is superior is because your using your entire hand to control it. On the controller you use your thumb. It allows a high level of play because your hand can has more nerves in it that allows a greater level of control and precision. Ask any doctor how much precision control do you have in your entire hand compared to your thumb. Besides your hand uses your thumb+.

Not just that - a thumbpad has a maximum rate of turning which makes flik shots pretty much impossible. It also gives you a smaller area to control your accuracy, hence making it less accurate. Also, an analog stick only has a set number of speeds, usually no more than 256 iirc. Sure, that's a lot, but still doesn't help in the accuracy department. This is an argument I don't think is worth enduring. People who play primarily on the console play only with other console players and will feel like it's superior because everyone has the same limitations. Until it becomes common for keyboard+mouse players to play with console players (I don't think it'll ever happen) then it'll be impossible to convince the players. I can watch gameplay videos and almost immediately tell you if they are playing on a console or PC, not because of the weaker graphics on the console, but because of they way they move. PC players make fun of people who control their toons a certain way. We equate a keyboard turner (which is pretty much what every console player looks like) to a mouth-breather. There is very little unnecessary turning due to the loss of time getting pointed back to where the enemy might appear, which means less observation of your environment.

Take it from someone who's been playing consoles since the Vectrex (I think that was my first console) and still collects as many consoles as I can... the keyboard+mouse interface is much more flexible and speedy than the joypad.

BTW - I have had some experiments where I've brought some buddies who are really good at FPS games on the 360 and PS3 and hooked them up with that interface on a PC while I played K+M. It was not a pretty sight, even on games I'm not great at or even familiar with.

The solution is simple and always has been. ALLOW KEYBOARD & MOUSE ON THE CONSOLES AS WELL. I mean look. you can you a frickin 360 controller on the PC SO WHY NOT THE OTHER WAY AROUND?!?! heck they even have a 360 controller style for the PS3 for people like me that just cant use a PS controller for FPS's. that way we can all play together like it should be. cause maybe you have a friend that is a pc gamer and you are a console gamer but you have the same game and want to play together. this way you both can use your platform of choice and still be happy playing together. THAT and the number of sales I think would rise cause people like to play together so when your friends buy a game and you wanna play with them you are likely to buy it too even though you dont have that system. like my friends pitched in to get me a copy of farcry 3 on steam so we could all play together, cause we all used to LAN up some farcry 2 all the time. it would also end a fued between preference on PS vs XBOX cause they could play together as well and not have to buy the same console. they already have 360 controllers for the ps3 and im sure they have ps controllers for the 360 as well. so why not let them play together and just add K&M to the mix......thats my input atleast..........PC wins and thats coming from a person who was a console gamer his my life, till I got a good computer and started playin pc games.

I'm seeing quite a few misinformed comments in the thread, and I'd like to provide a short list of facts in relation to PC Gaming...

1. You can plug a PC into your big screen television if your video card and TV have HDMI [or component, VGA, etc if don't mind the lower quality video signal]
2. You can build a Gaming PC with a comparable or smaller form factor than most consoles.
3. You can plug wireless controllers like the XBox360 controller into your PC an use with most games. You can use utilities such as JoyToKey to map keyboard / mouse commands to the controller for others if you want [I don't recommend].
4. You can use a wireless keyboard and mouse on your PC. These plus a nice tray or mini desk surface allow you to kick back in your recliner and play FPSs to your heart's content.
5. You can replace parts in your PC for relatively low cost upon system failure.
6. You can play most older generation console / arcade / computer games on your PC with high compatibility with use of an emulator. You can find most games online, and you can download them for free [if you own the original game of course ;) ].
7. Mutiplayer PC games on average have a more mature online community when compared to consoles. PC gamers are generally a older demographic.

Hope this helps clear some things up.

I sit on a nice soft couch and use my alienware 17" laptop... but I wish I could use my Saitek x-52 with hawkin (carpal tunnel tendonitis and degenerative arthritis).

I prefer my shooters on my pc but there is a limit on what you can play on it, playing a brawler can be difficult on a keyboard and fighting games are just plain cumbersome for me. Each control scheme has its merits.

Thats definitely false, I spent around $700-$800 on my PC and its going to last me most of the way through this upcoming 'generation'. It doesn't even matter where gaming came from, because the PC is better at it, because of the almost exclusive genres of RTS and MMORPG, which are exclusive for because of how you need the keyboard and mouse to play them. We also have options for our input devices, I can play Burnout Paradise with my 360 controller if I want to, I can play Planetside 2 with my mouse and keyboard. Also, I suggest that you read the article again, because that might help clear your bias.

Its win win situation, enjoy your games no matter what you playing with, even mobile phones games count at the time of need. if given a choice always a pc for me. but I dont hate console I just dont like it. nothing against console fans but, high performance pc always does the job. wow dont know where the came from. old habit die hard I guess ;).

Hahaha I always crack myself up when I see these type of comparisons being made. Who cares which platform is better. I enjoy my gaming on console and pc just as much. I'll play games on wich ever medium is availlible. So wether it's a mouse and keyboard, hand held remote or touch pad I'm happy. Oh btw I don't do it for money, so I guess my opinion doesn't count. Hahahaha
