    Don't know how to help you any further. the tutorial is correct and has been implemented by others, so I suggest you've skipped a step or not performed them faithfully - - sorry.

    Hey guys, was reading through this earlier in a search to fix to this exact same problem, and figured I'd share. I found out my modem actually has port forwarding settings, so even though I was port forwarding my router, the modem still needed to be configured as such. I went to my modem at local IP 192.168.0.1, and port forwarded 25565 to 192.168.0.2, and presto. Hope this helps some of you.

    This seems like a very valid solution for a lot of people having troubles with this sort of thing. I would have never thought of that until now, because I thought that only the router needed to be configured in all cases. Very good advice!

    Hi could you help me with my server too? I have a belkin router and my friend used a software which allows another person to have control of your computer, so I installed it, and he helped me by using teamviewer. I let him fix some of my server problems, he did. We port forwarded using my IPv4 address which was 172.16.0.5, instead of starting off with 192.168.x.x (The X's are blank for the numbers that were supposed to be their..) and yeah, so he helped me, But then we used portforward.com and then he asked me over TeamViewer chat if he could install a software too see if my port forwarding worked, but I was like no, because couldn't we know if it worked by testing and seeing if you could play on my server, so he said no..Also my cousin before admitted that he port forwarded my router when he came here once, is their a interference with what he did? If you get TeamViewer, by downloading it, or you add me on Skype Poku, or Coolbobcat2 , or Poachkama, so if you add me on Skype maybe you could help me. If you need any more information you can help me, you seem fully experienced. My default gateway is also 172.16.0.1 and my I.P from this link http://www.whatismyip.com/ said my I.P was: 184.7.95.67. My friend also helped me get a no-ip.org domain to be buildercraft.no-ip.org, so I don't know if that changed my I.P for the server. So, please try to help me!

    Hi, I know you must be really annoyed with everyone saying they have the same problem, but I made a bukkit server and my sister in the same house as me can't get on to it. I went to system preferences and clicked network, which gave me the IP, but when I go on to sites like whatismymyipaddress.com and ipchicken.com they give me a different one. I've already made the server and I can get on it fine with the IP that I got from system preferences but my sister can't. I have also tried changing the IP in the server.properties file to the one I got from the websites. Also I can't understand what you're saying (I'm not a tech person really...) I thought you only had 1 IP address... Help! :eek:

    Re: Jerrystheslime I kind of don't really understand what you mean, but I'm going to do my best to try to answer your questions:

    Your sister that lives in the SAME house as you should be able to get onto it, you should use the IPv4 address from doing Start>Type CMD> Type ipconfig and look for the IPv4 Adress, it should be like 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.2.1 something like that, but my IPv4 address doesn't even start with 192.168.x.x (The X's could be 1,2,) instead it's 172.16.0.1. Tell the IPv4 adress to your sister, you and your sister should TRY To use the IPv4 ADDRESS! If the IPv4 address you used doesn't work for your sister, and it works for you then using the I.P from whatismyipaddress.com and ipchicken.com THE I.P's from both of those sites (whatismyipaddress.com and ipchicken.com) SHOULD GIVE YOU THE SAME I.P. GIVE THAT I.P to your sister to use from the I.P given to you from the sites such as ipchicken.com.

    If you want other people to join your server you'll need to GIVE THEM your I.P from ipchicken.com or from whatismyipaddress.com
    and you need to port forward it, BUT don't do it without your parents permissions, I'm not really sure how to port forward maybe someone could help you with it.

    -Best Wishes!

    Anyone NOT attached to your router needs the IP address from whatismymyipaddress.com.

    Every device in the chain
    Modem-->router-->yourPC+server
    needs to be investigated for PORT FORWARDING and if available, you need to set it active thus

    modem->port forward-to->Router
    router->port forward-to->pc

    Hey thanks, but I don't really know what any of the stuff like router is, and if it helps I'm working on a mac. I gave my sister the IP from the websites but that didn't work either... I guess I can wait a while because I'm still making the server and adding plugins but eventually I'd like to be able to understand about what all this techy stuff is and fix the problem. :p Does anyone have any other suggestions or is anyone able to explain all this stuff in a very basic way and tell me how to access all of it. Thanks in advance :D

    None of these works. Alright... I am using a bukkit server. I am also using hamachi to attempt allow my friends to join my server. My server is running on my desktop computer, and I play minecraft itself on my laptop, and connect using hamachi. In the Server.properties the ip= section is blank and the port is 25565. The way this is, using my internal ipm, I can connect from either of my computers, but no one else can, using the same ip. I then made the ip= the ipv4 found in my hamachi. Like this, I can connect from THIS computer but not from my laptop, and no one else can connect either. So, am I just destined to not play on my server with my friends? Someone please help me, I've been trying to fix this all day (literally, hours...)

    1.Find the server computer's IP.
    2.go into the network administrations and assign the IP a port.
    3.give them you public IP the public IP then tell them to add a ":whatever the port is"
    so its like this <IP>:<port>.
    OH and I prefer using a Linux server

    hmm - - not good. If you're connected to the Internet and use http://whatismyipaddress.com/ and see address a.b.c.d and then immediately try ipchicken.com and get anything OTHER than the same a.b.c.d, Your tcp environment is haywire.

    Suggest you look at the router configuration information and look carefully at the LEASE information. There are two values: Lease Obtained and Lease Expires. When the Lease Expires date+time, the ip address will automatically be refreshed. Depending upon your ISP, you can get the same address as before, or another one. My lease expires every 12 hrs, but about 99% of the time, I get a constant IP. Recently however, it changed.

    The important issue is between Obtain and Expires, the IP must be constant.

    Now if you get new IP addresses AFTER the expire date, there's nothing you can do about it other than to register with the DynDNS service (see the wiki) OR purchase a true domain name.
