    hokay folks... (especialy howard)

memtest passed my ram 9 times with no errors. i tried the XP repair install... and right after i got to the desktop, we had our good friend BSOD!!! yarrhhh!! interesting thing is, TWICE after it crashed, windows online crash analysis asked for me to send a kernel dump for more information... hmmm...

i've seen posts in other forums where the power supply might have been the problem... not in this case. (har har... case... never mind.) i DID have a generic 600w (which came with my 40 dollar e-bay case) so it probably was not that high class, but i've got an antec 500w supply in there and i can't tell the difference... it's a little quieter, maybe.

i posted this earlier, but i'll post it again so you all can see what i've got, and see if there's any conflicts...

-Athlon XP 2800+ (i'm assuming barton core) w/ included heatsink
-ABIT KV7-V motherboard (via kt600 chipset)
-1 GB Corsair Valueselect DDR Dual-Channel (2x512 MB)
-120 GB Samsung HDD/80 GB Seagate HDD (both SATA, not running a RAID currently; had it on RAID 1 on first XP install)
-Visiontek ATI Radeon 9250 AGP (128 MB)
-M-Audio Delta 24/96 PCI soundcard (currently not installed, was installed during original XP install)
    -Dynex 52X CD-ROM
    -Dynex DVD-ROM/CD-RW
-Cannibalized Floppy Drive from a different machine
-Antec Neo HE 500W power supply

not working... this is sucky... i'm attaching more minidumps...

Hi, basically ive been getting the NTFS.sys Blue screens, i woudl include minidumps with this post, but i haven't even been able to complete the Windows Setup after isntallation, it can be installing the components for windows and then it just suddnely crashes and gives me the blue screen. most of the time is shows "Ntfs.sys", not sure if this will help but i copied some of the numbers and stuff down from one of the many crashes.

    -------Crash #1-------

The problem seems to be caused by the following file: Ntfs.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    (writing, warning etc)

    STOP: 0x00000050 (0xFF676B8C, 0x00000000, 0xF83650FB, 0x00000000) at F8360000, Datestamp 41107eea

    -----END-----

notsure if that'll help but yea.. can't relayl access C:\windows\minidump when i haven't even finished the installation for windows. Personally i tihnk it might be a corrupted hard drive, due to the fact that i can't see the second partition of my Seagate 80gb, i only see 33gbs of it when it's totla is 80... i've tried to use the Seagate HD Bootdiskettes to format the drive but hasn't relaly worked.. its just able to only see 33.8gbs

Ty for the help if possible~

Your latest batch of minidumps crash with memory corruption, and sr.sys.

Since you have done a Windows repair, you can rule out software as the cause. This is deffinitely a hardware problem.

Some faulty ram can pass memtest.

I urge you to try a new stick of ram. If that doesn`t work then maybe it`s your cpu L2 cache ram that`s bad.

    Regards Howard :)

    Hi rekrdskratcher,

Howard's finding is correct. Some faulty ram can pass memtest. It is worthwhile to reseat the memory stick and cleanup the dust inside your Windows

    Additional Suggestion
    1. Some minidumps crashes at IRQL 1 which is related to paging. Maybe your paging space is bad or software error at Windows. I have to some research at MicroSoft Web
    IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (a)
An attempt was made to access a pageable (or completely invalid) address at an
interrupt request level (IRQL) that is too high. This is usually
caused by drivers using improper addresses.
If a kernel debugger is available get the stack backtrace.
    Arguments:
    Arg1: ffbdf110, memory referenced
    Arg2: 00000001, IRQL
    Arg3: 00000000, value 0 = read operation, 1 = write operation
Arg4: 80505390, address which referenced memory

    2. Some minidumps crashes after filtering
    Microsoft Product Support's Reporting Tools
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...7C-7CA5-408F-88B7-F9C79B7306C0&displaylang=en
Run the SetupPerf one and look for the output from FltrFind.exe. Maybe some drivers are corrupted.
    3. Upgrade your windows to latest patches.

guys, i think i might have found the problem...

i decided to reseat my ram and dust out the system. fine. so i reseated the ram to different positions, still was getting the BSODs. okay, so maybe it's a bad stick, right? so i pull one... leaving one in the middle slot...

    BINGO. no crashes.

so i tried moving it around to the other two slots... crashola.

then i tried the other stick of ram... SAME RESULTS!

kids, it sounds like i might have bad ram slots... what do you think?

I think it`s more than possible for you to have faulty dimm slots.

If you get a can of compressed air. Try blowing out any dust that may have fallen into the dimm slots.

Also, take a look at your mobo manual, for the ram configuration instructions.

    Regards Howard :) :)

Hello this is my first post here.

Maybe someone can help me out, I have been getting random Blue Screens today and they have said page fault in nonpage area and ntfs.sys sometimes and from reading what was said I reseated my RAM in another slot and it didn't really do much (havent seen a ntfs.sys blue screen yet).

I don't really know if this will help also but I sometimes have my computer start beeping alot and my mouse moves into the top left corner and flashes forcing me to reboot.

Anyway here is my 4 minidumps I have gotten, I thank any of you that can help me out.

Hi everyone, my PC just crashed on me while it's completing the winXP SP2 installation with the same BSOD like so many of u had.

Am taking CPC's advise in cleaning up the dust and swapping the RAMs after my post. But I am not hopeful. I have been plagued with this disease of BSOD for the past year and finally someone pointed me to this forum for HELP.

Before someone screams read the stickies, I would like to know if the minidumps at c:\windows\minidump are legible text or are they supposed to be weird character files??? Cos I just opened one of mine in Notepad and it looks gibberish. The purpose of asking is to ensure that I do attached the correct files IF ever I need to.

    Cheers

    Hello and welcome to Techspot.

When you open minidump files in notepad it is just gibberish. You need to open the minidumps with the windbg programme which is part of the Windows debugging tools.

If you wish to look at your minidumps, then take a look at this quick tutorial HERE

Zip 5 or 6 minidumps up and attach them here.

Someone will take a look at them, and advise.

Alright, now that Howard has shown me the way, I do seek all ur help in resolving my problems. Just when I was preparing to upload my files, my system crashed on a BSOD with NTFS.sys again.

    Hi Loopy00,

    Do you have any update?

Some of your minidumps crash at SAVRT.SYS

This is the driver for your Symantec internet security.

Check with the manufacturers website for any updates, or patches.

You could also try turning off the live update feature, as I have been informed that this can sometimes solve the problem.

Try uninstalling, and reinstalling the software.

If that doesn`t work, then try a different security product.

BTW I apologise for taking so long to answer you.

    Regards Howard :)

hey guys, just joined when I saw all the posts for my same problem. PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA along with random restarts. I've tested the RAM with memtest and it can through for more than 1.5 hours. The only kicker was that my box went through a serious power surge from a lightening strike very close to my house. It was dead untill I replaced the motherboard(I always replaced the PS) but now I am getting the problem above. I have attacted the most recent minidump, hopefully you can help me out.

    Thanks!

Thanks for the reply Howard. Really appreciate it. Sorry I din reply sooner, was away from Singapore during the weekend. As it works out, my motherboard was diagnosed with a faulty RAM slot 1 and 3. So I went ahead with a new motherboard and now, keeping my fingers crossed, am not having much BSOD as before. However, I do notice that Symantec AV stopped installing when I first started. Would go on to change from this free copy and get Trend Micro soon. Thanks again Howard.

    Cheers

If I may make a suggestion.

Rather than using the Trend micro programme.

Why don`t you give these a try, they are both free, and come highly recommended.

AVG free antivirus available from HERE

Sygate personal firewall available from HERE

Download both of the above, then disconnect from the internet.
Uninstall the Symantec programme first, and reboot your computer.

Install the Sygate firewall, and reboot, then the AVG programme, and reboot.

Reconnect to the internet and check for updates for both programmes.

If you don`t like either of the above programmes, you can always uninstall them.

    Regards Howard :)

    Related .dmp file

I have a similar issue with the ntfs.sys file. I've attached my .dmp file and would appreciate any help trying to decipher it......

    Thank you!
