Nvidia is asking graphics card retailers to prioritize gamers over miners

I was just looking to build a new desktop. Havn't put one together but my trust 980 6core is still ticking, water cooled. Was a bunch of work to clean it up after getting home from the Army for 4 years but I'm patiently waiting for this "tech junkie" thought to pass. I'm definately not a tech junky. I just want to build a new setup. I could also try drugs I guess. lol
Well, it depends on how bad your jones is. Right now, I'm linking you to a 2 GB GTX-1050 (not ti) for $140.00 It would get you up and running, for most 1080p gaming.

It's in stock ATM: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814126169

Cap I thought I remembered LinkedKube having an SLI rig. I looked up his details. I don't know how accurate they still are, but the details list "EVGA 580 sli". I'm pretty sure a 1050 would be inadequate. He would need a single 1060 just to break passed the 580s in SLI. Somehow I don't see him wanting anything less than top of the line GTX 1080.

I mistakenly interpreted he just wanted to get up and running. "My bad", as the children say.

Beyond that, I suppose he'll have to wait for the next generation cards.(And in the meantime hope and pray that prices stabilize in keeping with suggested retails).

Just vote with your wallet ..... it always turns the tide ....

I don't think people understand your post. I agree with you, I have a decent graphics card and I can certainly wait this one out. I have done it before and will probably have to do it again. If I have to wait until 2019 for graphic card prices to come back down to normal I will wait. If all of the gamers out there did the same thing the prices would probably drop a lot sooner. Unfortunately there is no PC gamers union to coordinate so it is up to individuals to make their own decisions.

That's an awful lot of behavioral modification and self control you're expecting to impose on, or find in, individuals whose sole motivation for playing computer games, is to win at all cost.

Excuse me, I play video games to lose at all costs. We may be a small bunch, but we exist. I believe they call it a "reverse dopamine effect". Please be more considerate in the future.

Sounds like your describing my union there captain.lol..
That's an awful lot of behavioral modification and self control imposed on us individuals ,whose sole motivation is too make a boatload of cash get the shutdown over ,and go home.ie; WIN!

I can't account for the reverse dopamine effect! but I know a few steadies.

steadies , yes men, and some staff are most susceptible, to the reverse dopemine effect.don't care if they win or lose ,they can't go home anyway. .on to the next one.

There is a relatively simple solution to this all. If NVidia really cared about its gaming customers, they should make NON-GAMING video cards, aimed at mining and AI/ Scientific use. Then, price these lower than the gaming cards. If you remove all the parts of a graphics card that miners don't need - such as video ports, VR, and HD Audio, it's no longer useful to a gamer. If GTX 1070 ti based MINING cards came on the market at MRSP using less power that their gaming counterparts, GAMING CARD PRICES WOULD NORMALIZE, and the gold rush would be on the new mining cards. I'm using 1070 as an example because I believe they have the best power efficiency/cost for mining. If NVidia doesn't do this, someone else will - and there lies the profit problem. Should they play the short game and soak in profits from crypto? Or should they play the long game and focus on being the market leader in gaming cards? My two cents...

The vast majority of gamers aren't walking into the store with $1000 for a video card. Only crypto miners are spending that long.

Anyone who walks into the store ready to buy should be prioritized.

DONE! check these out ,with no video outputs .mining specific.finding them now may be the hard part.I couldn't find a techspot report on these.found it.

just google or Edge .mining specific GPU,and voila.or the search engine at the top of the webpage.

Yeah, I've yet to upgrade anything. I'm kind of stuck. This habit can be a money suck and I remember how annoying it was just to build my water cooled setup. I may just wait for a new iteration of graphics cards before I go face deep. I may just wind up overhauling everything and selling my old stuff.
