out of town

Almost forgot if I don't catch you tonight or in the morning I will be out of town (Jeff City) T & W, could be on the computer W night but may be too late when I get home I don't know. But surely I will be on THurs morning for awhile and WILL be on Thurs night.
Thanks again,
Beverlie

Sorry to say that all these "fixes" have not fixed my problem which seams to be the same as Beverlies.
I:

Ran SpyBot and update to clean DSO exploit and other spyware.
Ran Ad-aware and cleaned all adware and spyware not found with spybot.
Ran full virus system scan, nothing found.
Turned off all firewalls (only had the PC-cillin one running) Windows FW not on.
Deleted cookies, files, etc. in IE.
Ran HighJackThis didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

The web sites that are not opening so far are all Microsoft type sites like:
www.login.passport.net
www.microsoft.com/windows/support/default.mspx
On www.msn.com the
signin.gif
button does not appear. It only shows a red X and text for the link. Clicking on it does not open the site.
This problem started on only one of my home networked computers but now is on 2 of them. I think it is something happening because of MSN messenger but don't know where to go for a fix.
Please help!

PS Beverlie, didn't receive any email.

I'm here give me a few

I went into safe mode did what you said and lost it on my copy and paste when I rebooted I think let me see if I can go find it. BRB

finally got it all sent

For some reason if I try and send too much I time out and it will not send it. I tried pasting the whole thing in there and it wouldn't go. This is what these various pages are doing I think. Timing out, it says can't display but I think it is because they timeout.

Dad

Those are the same places I can not go to. And dang all the luck there is a page at Neopets that I NEED and can't use because of this. Kids got me addicted :) Whatever the problem is I think we have the same problem. Many microsoft and msn not all but some.
Sorry but my computer is timing out when I try and send an email. Gosh this is frustrating.

Beverlie

Are you using Outlook 2002 for your email? I am and had a problem sending attachments. They would time out. I was pointed at this web site for a fix which worked for me:
Email Attachments Timing Out
It looks like you're using incredimail so this won't help.

DAD mail

Hi nice to see you. Yes I am trying to use Incredimail I have used it for years and I love it I have NEVER had a problem with it. I am about ready to throw my computer out the window. Did YOU see anything funny in my Hichjack this log?

No, I don't see anything out of the ordinary. But I don't claim to be an expert. When I have found things they were pretty obvious like doubleclick, or begin2search, or bargins.exe, etc.

And yes, I am in AZ. Love it here. Where are you?

Dad

I really wish you aould have seen some blatantly obvious boo boo. I live in the middle of the Ozarks in Southern Missouri. It is pretty here, I was raised in MO, but as of late I have been thinking about moving to Mexico, I dunno I guess I just want a change. I use to live in Mexico when I was a young girl, kinda stuck out like a sore thumb being as how I am pretty Irish looking, but I did love it there too. I have also thought about buying a small place there and going there for part of the year. I dunno, probably just suffering from empty nest syndrome.

I would let hijackthis fix the following files.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [avast!] C:\PROGRA~1\ALWILS~1\Avast4\ashDisp.exe

O12 - Plugin for .spop: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\NPDocBox.dll
O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.emachines.com

O9 - Extra button: Real.com - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\Shdocvw.dll

O4 - Global Startup: BigFix.lnk = C:\Program Files\BigFix\BigFix.exe

Make sure to allow Hijackthis to make a backup just in case it is needed.

Regards Howard

didn't work

Good morning Howard,
I fixed all of the items you suggested, however I hit O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winampa.exe" instead of the avast one that you said. I did the scan again and it did not find the avast one. In fact it came up with some of the old ones and some new ones. It did not fix the problem. It did howver take winam agent and big fix off of my startup on the bottom which was fine with me.

If you allowed Hijackthis to make a backup file then you can if you wish restore the file you deleted by mistake.

I must admit that I`m running out of ideas as to what to suggest next, but I will give it some more thought and post back to you if I can think of anything else.

I would still get rid of the AVAST file looks very suspect to me.

Regards Howard

I have just thought of something that may or may not help.

Obviously something is blocking your access to certain web pages and we seem to have exhausted the virus and spyware theory.

So it maybe something in your registry or something that is running on your system that is interfering with it.

If you download Cleanmypc registry cleaner from the following link it may be of assistance to you.

I have been using this programme for quite some time and find it really helpful.

It also has a great startup section that lets you choose which programmes start with windows.

If you download the trial version it will only fix two problems at a time so you may need to run it many times in order to fix everything it finds.

I`m not saying that this will solve your problem but it will cartainly help your computer to run better.

http://www.registry-cleaner.net/

I hope this helps Regards Howard :slurp: :slurp:

Just found out what the AVAST thing is it`s your antivirus if you have deleted it either restore the backup file from hijackthis or reinstall Avast.

Sorry if this has caused you any problems

Regards Howard

This problem is really a burr in my saddle! I have even done a complete reinstall of XP pro SP2 on one of my affected machines and the problem was not fixed. Therefore all the spybot, ad-aware, reg cleaning, anti-virus scanning won't fix it. At least not on my networked system. Next, I will reinstall on my internet "gateway" computer. It is the only common link to the internet that my 2 other affected computers have. That way I will have a fresh firewall and anti-virus install as well. What is funny (NOT) is that I can open all these page on it that won't open on the other 2.

Hello Dad.

I was just thinking is it possible that this may have something to do with your ISP I know it sounds a little far fetched but it`s just a thought.

Maybe if you contacted them they might be able to help.

Regards Howard

Beverlie, Dad

You are getting those messages because those websites are down - temporarily or permanently. I get that often.

I am getting that message with Dad's first link: http://www.login.passport.net/ I think it is permanently down. MS is constantly reorganizing and often kills many of its websites because of that.

I am getting through OK on Dad's second link. It may have been down temporarily when you tried it. Try it again.

Dad, right-click on the red X and select Show Picture.

Those messages don't mean that there is any problem with your computer. They indicate a problem with the website you are trying to access. About the neopets site - are you sure that it is still up and functioning properly?
