Sorry, I meant using CCleaner for cleaning the registry. I haven't tried Revo, but from various posts I've read in the Techspot forum, it's been recommended lots of times. CCleaner can backup the registry entries before deleting them. If Revo has similar function, I'd suggest backing up the files before it deletes them, just in case. But, sure, uninstall it with Revo, then reinstall Java.

Ok, I've heard of using ccleaner to do such but in all honesty, I'd need step by step instructions so I could write them down. I don't have a printer. Will have to tackle this tomorrow when more awake, thanks.

    Download CCleaner: http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Run the program. On the left side, it'll show "Cleaner", "Registry", "Tools" & "Options"

Select "Registry", then at the bottom, there's a button that says "Scan for Issues".

Click on that & let it do it's thing. You'll see a list of issues w/ box next to each that's already checked

Then click on "Fix Selected Issues"

Select Yes when it asks if you want to back up changes to the registry. I use the file name it provides. The default directory where the backup is saved is My Document

Then click on Fix all Issues

That's about it. Then reboot your computer afterward.

Ok,I've done as you've explained & am going to reboot now.

That was painless.:) Now go get java?

Yep. Install Java and see whether it'll work in FF.

:( Not in Firefox, SeaMonkey or Opera.
When I was installing it,it told me it was already installed & asked me if I wanted to install it anyway & I said yes.

If you open the Java Control Panel in Control Panel, and click on the Advance tab. Then click on Default Java for Browsers and Java Plug-in, all boxes should have a check.

There is no java Control Panel in the Control Panel

Ok, let's check the fold where Java was installed. Should be something like "c:\program files\java". Now, take a look at the "bin" folder in "jre6". Is there a "javacpl.cpl"? If so, then copy that to "c:\windows\system32".

You should now see Java in Control Panel.

Did exactly as you said & it still don't show. I even rebooted.

If the javacpl.cpl file is there then just double-click it and run it from it's folder. It'll still work. Doesn't have to be in Control Panel.

When you reinstalled Java this time, did it create the "new_plugin" folder (post #23) & the three files (#25)?
  16. learninmypc TechSpot Guru Posts: 3,026   +100

    I don't see "new_plugin" in it.
  17. Rabbit01 TechSpot Enthusiast Posts: 763   +12

I forgot to ask what happened when you double-click on javacpl.cpl? You got an error message?

And what folder(s) other than "client" were created in "c:\program files\java\bin"? "plugin2" like before?
  18. learninmypc TechSpot Guru Posts: 3,026   +100

I hope I'm not getting too confused here. This is the "Client" folder

Now if I can re locate the java.cpl I'll answer that, too.

Ok, clicking the "java.cpl", it brought up the Java Control Panel

I have a check next to Mozilla Family.

As for the folders, I have 2 in the "bin" folder:

    c:\program files\Java\jre6\bin\client
    c:\program files\Java\jre6\bin\new_plugin

There should be 3 files (post #25) in the "new_plugin" folder.
