Raise your maturity level to the rest of ours and you will find yourself much more appriciated in the channel. I can think of many times I have came back from the bar extremely drunk and still talked with a maturity level several steps above yours.

Just a quick copy & paste for future reference ;)

TechSpot's IRC Channel...
Even though this channel has existed for a few of months now, I think it's time to pay some support back to our beloved TS hardcore community members. What is so exciting about IRC is that you will be able to meet TS visitors in realtime; you should also be able to catch us up, crew members, for some little chat, etc.

TS Forums should still be the primary 'meeting spot' for our community members, though the IRC variant will bring some more excuses to hang around ;). So here's the server info you need to join the conversation:

name : #3dspotlight
IRC Server : reality.no.eu.starchat.net:6667 / reality.no.eu.starchat.net:6669 / reality.no.eu.starchat.net7000
Server Name : StarChat

If you haven't got any IRC program, I recommend you getting the latest version of mIRC which can be freely downloaded; StarChat servers are also listed there as a default, it's pretty easy to join really. For further support visit our IRC channel forum thread.

There are servers beyond that. Connecting using irc.starchat.net on port 6668 works best for me.

Techspot IRC

I just registered. There was little to no activity there. Do you guys use it very often? There were a half-dozen or so names listed, but nobody replied to me. I am new to IRC, so could I have done anything wrong possibly? I'm using mirc 6.02 .

You didn't do anything wrong. I see that you were in there earlier, but I was at class. People are in there sometimes and other times they aren't. It can get VERY active if everyone happens to be there at the same time, but usually there are only a few that are there. You just came at a time when everyeone was doing something. SNGX1275 and I were at class and the others are working.

So basically it is pot luck if you catch someone or not. If you have time to just idle in there be patient and I am sure someone will come along. :)

How about moving to a different server?

Don't you think we should get more people into the channel, and attract more people to the forums? I was thinking a server along the lines of gamesnet. Nick reccomended it. We don't get any traffic outside of TS regulars in the starchat server.

Quakenet maybe?

I only suggest that for the large number of people I always see on it, and the Irish server, which is handy for me to use....

Just reminding you all to come and have a look at the channel. I am hoping to add some bots and some other features there, and there is already some file sharing available.... ;)

What kind of bots, P66?

I once had a file server up when I had DSL. Although noone wanted to touch it with a ten-foot pole. Perhaps this Christmas...

Wait...this thread has been viewed 2,404 times, how can you say that??? (at time of posting)

Might I say that it at least quadrupled with the move to the meeting spot

I tried to log on just now, but aside from a welcome from mr girabaldi, I got no response.
My firewall was freaking out and saying there was some kind of security alert:

11/24/2002 21:43:27 Port Scan Minor Incoming TCP 172.168.130.242 64.246.42.64 3 11/24/2002 21:43:13 11/24/2002 21:43:22

11/24/2002 21:43:38 Active Response Major Incoming Unknown 172.168.130.242 64.246.42.64 1 11/24/2002 21:43:29 11/24/2002 21:43:29

What is this?
Is this normal?

This is just the server trying to ping you and make sure you are still there. I used to get these errors, but learned to ignore them after a little investigation. As long as you know it is form starchat then there is no problem. They are just making sure you are still out there in the virtual world.

And yes it is kind of slow at times, just because we all work or have school. Also there are not many regular members that go to chat there. I'd say I've only seen about 25 members in there total.

Just keep trying, you'll catch us eventually.

Whenever you see me browsing the forums, chances are I'm in the chan. Usually the afternoon & evening hours are the most populated.

Honestly though...

You would probably get a good deal more people to come if you made a single, sticked post with all the neccessary information in it, rather then a bajillion page thread with the info scattered at random.

You might see a traffic increase if you moved to a more public server, although I doubt it's the traffic you want.

You guys dont seriously think that your going to get much traffic on a irc channel do you? the average computer user who needs help doesnt have MIRC or have the faintest clue of how to access an irc channel. if your serious about having a real time chat/help place you need to open a room on MSN or implement some kind of Java chat solution. the key is EASY ACCESS.
