TechSpot IRC Channel

Weird, I think it's StarChat but it seems to work only with some particular irc clients. I just tried KSirc, it said I'm K-lined (banned), but X-Chat works just fine.

BUMP!

The IRC room needs more new faces. Don't be scared - if you don't know how to use IRC we'll teach you.

It would be helpful if Julio would put out an announcement on the board about it...

Veh, the only thing about that is that the chan is not endorsed or anything by TS, it is made by us. If something went bad in there, like it usually does ;) TS has no part of it.

But I do however agree that we need more people in there.

what do you mean, nick?

you're banned??????????.............but, allowed to post on the boards????..........and, for what reason?????............i want to know.........

The TechSpot IRC channel is under different "ownership" than TS itself is. Although some of the moderators here are IRC ops in the channel, the big guys here aren't the big guys in #3dspotlight.

So, basically if you get banned on the IRC channel, it doesn't mean you will get banned here. I believe that is normally up to Julio or some of the other higher ranking members.

IRC has very different rules from the rest of the internet.

While posting all the info you can is pretty much wanted and rewarded here, IRC focuses more on being concise and not spamming... being an ***** isn't tolerated (unless you can be funny about it).

IRC is nice because it is fast, simple, and lightweight - There are hundreds of clients you can use and they are all multiplatform... once you get used to it, you'll probably end up preferring it over the slew of instant messenger / chat programs that are out there.

Concur, the only problem I have found is that not very many of my friends even know what it is. Kinda sad, but I am trying to open their eyes to it.

As an Op in the channel, I just want to point out that while Soul's statement is fairly correct, we are somewhat laid back in there and we don't have as strictly enforced rules as the forum, mainly because the forum is open and easily accessible so it needs more strict guidelines. It is also a somewhat serious and professional platform, whereas the channel is more of a place for us to talk and sometimes give live help when needed.

While we do try to maintain some kind of order in the channel, we are easy to get along with and you have to do something pretty stupid to get banned.

I might return to the channel once certain individuals learn to behave more maturely (might be a long time).

I know forum rules don't apply there but still...

Well these certain individuals with large ego's, ignoramous attitudes and very immature CONSTANT act's are very easily named. It is something that definately needs to be address but until the ones in charge of the room address it then it will continue.

There may be some changes soon in the channel. All ops haven't had a chance to voice their opinion or review the relavent info, but things are about to change in the channel.

Now now, I know anyone can be tolerated who comes in to say hi. I'm very surprised that more people don't come check it out, at least a time or two.

Unfortunately I can't connect from the office I work from in Italy and I'm currently here for 45 days.
My work have opened up access from my home office so I should be on more often than previously (well I'll be on at some point which is more often :D )
