    Side-issue/problem/confusion - I don't know if this info is relevant or not to the infection...
    Before we established contact, this infected laptop was at another site. When it moved, it had problems maintaining a wireless connection with the nearby router (connect/disconnect again and again). I went to the dell support site and downloaded later versions broadcom wireless drivers. The result was disastrous - no wireless connection at all. I rolled back the broadcom wireless drivers. But on startup, two programs (WLTRAY.exe and bcmwltry.exe) report "ordinal not found.
    The ordinal 344 could not be located in the dynamic link library COMCTL32.dll".
    This errmsg pops up whenever the system is started. Eventually, I'd like to resolve the problem (how? re-install XP SP3????). For now, I have disabled the wireless adapter and have run a ethernet cable connecting the laptop with the router

    Complete my last steps FIRST.

    Then....

    Your computer was seriously infected, which could possibly caused those issues.
    Try to reinstall the driver again and report on progress.

    Any other issues?
