Chinese Government declares war on Internet pornography
According to a Chinese government official, 221 people have been arrested, and almost 600 web sites have been shut down since March in a crackdown on "obscene" Internet content.
Committed to crushing web sites that challenge government authority, or distribute content that the government considers to be detrimental to society, the Chinese Government has also recently expanded their surveillance to include mobile phone text messaging and other forms of communication.

This is communism at an extreme level. Now I see why President Bush visited China, in an attempt to convert the Chinese, to develop a more democratic system of government and culture. The thing about this is, Pornography is a big part of the world economy, in that being said, it could be a big blow to China, from an economic standpoint. |

Huh ?! Are we back to the 80's in the Cold War ?! Intercepting SMS messages, shutting down websites... All for what? Decline freedom of speech and expression ?I know China is a comunist country, but I thought they westernized in the last years.If someone builds a website against China's regime and I live outside of China, would they harm him in any way ? If so, I think it's an outrage. |

It's common practice in a country where SARS epidemic was kept as a secret from the world for almost a year. What I don't understand is why they start to crack down on pornography. Usually Chinese government is liberal to anything as long as it doesn't pose any threat to the government, and I don't think pornography poses any threat to Chinese government. |

i think chinese government should look other ways to prevent people looking for porn on the internet..maybe taxes or stuff like that... |

The use of "war" in this article was lifted from the source article. As regards the blu-ray vs HD DVD thing, calling it the "DVD format war" has now become an accepted way of refering to the situation in many corners of the Internet.Oh, and I can also do what the bloody hell I like. This is one advantage to communism... to parents. For us horny young adults its a blow to the forbidden areas. But the thing is, China is probably only doing this because most people see asian people as easy to get into bed if you know what i mean. And as they have oh what? 1 Billion people in their country, they want to show that these 1 billion people don't like anything to do with sex and are good little chinese people. Funny thin is, with the government hackign the westto destoy these websites, chinese are hacking into the west to stop them form being hacked if you knwow waht i oh forget it. I just find it funny thats all. |

It might have to do with the same politics. Who knows?Maybe some politician porn is on some sites..they might trying to hide a secrets..Who knows? |

Wow, China did something good! Now most of you will probably disagree with me, but yes i am against communism, but porno is not free speech! it destroys people, recks marriages, and does worse things to people than i would care to say. Mabye the government shouldn't be the party to step in, but if it does for whatever reason, well good for them! |

IMO, online porn is not as bad as online gambling. They should crack down on it too, along with websites which spread malwares, phishing, and spamming. Those websites are more "detrimental to society" |

I dont think it destroys marrage, anyone who cheats off porn sites would cheat anyways. If you truly love your spouse no one, i mean no one could break you apart. |
