Motorola is set to acquire
Kreatel Communications, who specialise in developing television set-top boxes that use Linux and IP-based services.
Kreatel's system includes not just the operating system but also higher-level application and infrastructure software for sending TV signals over the internet. Kreatel customers include KPN in the Netherlands, Telefonica in Spain and TeliaSonera in Sweden.
The deal is expected to be closed in Q1 of this year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
