Samsung shows off first commercial BluRay writer
BluRay is finally here, and the first available BluRay disc burner is already on the market. Samsung's SH-B022 is the first commercial writer for BluRay discs, and despite being ahead of the curve technology wise, it uses a plain jane IDE connector. Of course, no standard software yet supports burning to BluRay by default, but a patch for Nero 7 adds functionality.
The capacity of the drive is nothing to shrug at, with support for 25GB and higher discs already. Good luck finding them, though, and even better luck affording them when you do, because they will start at around $25 a pop. The speed is not impressive at all, in fact slower than even a midrange DVD burner, but that's likely to soon change.

With production costs around the one of a DVD burner... Or maybe BluRay needs better electronics, but they still make a lot of money on release. |
