Company of Heroes videocard performance @ TechSpot
However, before purchasing this game or even considering a hardware upgrade, it will be important to know first if your computer will run it, and second how good it will actually look while at it. There is indeed a massive difference between low and high quality settings in CoH, suggesting older systems will still be able to run this title. But then again, having visual settings set at their maximum really does this game justice.
We have set up a system for testing Company of Heroes performance with 14 different graphics cards from both ATI and Nvidia, using three different in-game quality configurations, at three different resolutions, plus quality comparison screenshots to boot.

In fact only the 7800GT and 7950GT delivered playable performance and that was at 1024x768."I disagree with the statement that it is only playable at 1024*768. In the case of the 7950gt, it delivers 36.7 frames per second at 1280*1024. This is merely 4.2 frames per second less than the 40.9 frames per second achieved at 1024*768.36.7 is still above 30fps, at which point anything below becomes noticeably "choppy".The 7800GT still manages to squeak by with 32.2fps at 1280*1024.Excellent aricle over all though, great information. I like the fact that you went back and determined the single most setting that would impact performance. |

Was there a reason any mention of the Radeon X1900XTX was dropped from the narrative after halfway through the ATI performance page? The X1900XT was discussed in the comparison with Nvidia but the XTX seemed totally forgotten. |

Unfortunately we did not have any competing Nvidia cards to compare with the XTX, so it wouldn't have been fair to put that above the X1900XT or GeForce 7950GT. We are in the process of getting one for a Radeon X1950 review however. |

I felt it would have been a fairer to compare the 7950GT and the X1900XT since they are in a similar price bracket. The X1900XTX was included as you said but I decided not to compare it to the other cards as we did not have a 7900GTX or 7950GX2 for comparison. |

Okay, fair enough. However, since you did start out with the X1900XTX, maybe a word of explanation of why you didn't continue with it could have been included in the review. As is, it sort of left us hanging. Not a big deal though. Good article, by the way. It goes a long way toward guiding those who want to upgrade their graphics card to play Company of Heroes. |
