Micron is joining the ranks of other manufacturers with PC2-8500 RAM, unveiling their first chips this week. Using a 78nm process, Micron will be fabbing 512MB, 1GB and 2GB modules, all running at the stock 1.8V for DDR2. This is important, since many vendors are currently only able to achieve 1066MHz speeds with overvolting their chips, causing excess heat. Neither Intel or AMD have chipsets supporting 1066MHz, making Nvidia the sole vendor in that aspect, but with the upcoming release of AMD's quad core platforms it may have a much more important role. Micron most often supplies their modules for other vendors to sell, such as Crucial.
